Wiper Motor



Removal & Installation
  1. Remove windshield wiper arm cover.
  2.  
  3. Operate the wiper and stop the windshield wiper motor assembly at the automatic stop position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left and right wiper arms.

  7. Remove the 6 clips and cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the connector, remove the 4 bolts and wiper link assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the windshield wiper motor assembly as follows:

    1. Disengage the meshing of rod at the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assy.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 3 bolts and windshield wiper motor assembly from the windshield wiper link assembly.
      NOTE
      Turning the crank arm by hand prior to the operation will be able to remove the wiper motor easier.

To install:

  1. Install the windshield wiper motor assembly as follows:


    1. Apply grease to the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly.
    2.  
    3. Install the windshield wiper motor assembly with the 3 bolts to the windshield wiper link assembly. Tighten the 3 bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
    4.

  3. Install the windshield wiper link assembly with the 4 bolts and tighten to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm). Connect the connector.
  4.  
  5. Operate the wiper, and stop the windshield wiper motor at the automatic stop position.

  7. Scrape off the serration part of the wiper arm with a round file or equivalent.
  8.  
  9. Clean the wiper pivot serration with the wire brush.
  10.  
  11. Align the wiper blade front end with the mark and install the wiper arm (right or left) with the nut. Tighten the nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Operate the wiper while running the water or the washer fluid over the window, and check the wiping condition and that the wiper does not hit against the vehicle body.

  1. Using a screwdriver, remove the wiper arm head covers. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 wiper arms.
  4.  
  5. Remove the hood-to-cowl top seal.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 clips of the cowl top ventilator louver.
  8.  
  9. Using a screwdriver, remove the cowl top ventilator louver. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the connector, remove the 3 bolts and wiper link assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wiper motor as follows:


    1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the wiper link from the motor. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
    2.  
    3. Remove the nut.
    4.  
    5. Place the matchmarks on the wiper link and motor.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 3 screws and wiper motor from the wiper link.
    8.

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor as follows:


    1. Install the wiper motor with the 3 bolts to the wiper link. Tighten the 3 bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Align the matchmakers on the wiper link and wiper motor, then install the nut. Tighten the nut to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Connect the wiper link to the wiper motor.
    6.

  3. Install the wiper link assembly and fasten the 3 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm). Connect the connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the cowl top ventilator louver with the 2 clips.
  6.  
  7. Install the hood-to-cowl top seal.
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arms as follows:


    1. Operate the wipers once and turn the wiper switch OFF.
    2.  
    3. Install the wiper arms and tighten the nuts by hand.

    5. Adjust the installation positions of the wiper arms to the positions as shown in the illustration.

      A: 0.787 inch (20mm)
       
      B: 1.102 inch (28mm)

    7. Torque the nuts to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
    8.

  1. Remove the cool air intake duct seal.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left and right engine room side covers.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left and right front upper fender protectors as follows:


    1. Using a clip remover, separate the clip on the rubber portion of the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly from the front upper fender protector.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the 3 clips and the claw to remove the front upper fender protector.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Remove the left and right roof drip side finish moulding as follows:


    1. Put protective tape around the roof drip side finish moulding.
    2.  
    3. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 6 clips and remove the roof drip side finish moulding.
      NOTE
      Do not remove the clips. If the clips are damaged or fall off, replace them with new clips.

  9. Using a screwdriver, remove the front wiper arm head cap (left and right). Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nut and the front wiper arm and blade assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 clips, disengage the 11 claws, and pull out the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the windshield wiper motor and link assembly as follows:


    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 bolts.

    5. Disengage the rubber pin of the windshield wiper motor from the vehicle body as shown in the illustration. Remove the windshield wiper motor and link assembly.

  17. Remove the windshield wiper motor assembly as follows:

    1. Using a screwdriver, separate the windshield wiper No. 2 link rod from the crank arm pivot of the front wiper motor assembly as shown in the illustration. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
    2.  
    3. Use the same procedure for the No. 1 link rod, separating it from the pivot of the front wiper link assembly. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    5. Position the windshield wiper No. 1 link rod as shown in the illustration. Using a screwdriver, remove the windshield wiper No. 1 link rod. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
    6.  
    7. Using a "torx" socket wrench (T30), remove the 2 bolts and the windshield wiper motor assembly from the wind shield wiper link assembly.
    8.

To install:

  1. Install the windshield wiper motor assembly as follows:


    1. Using a "torx" socket wrench (T30), install the windshield wiper motor assembly with the 2 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 66 inch lbs. (7.5 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Apply MP grease to the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly.
    4.  
    5. Install the windshield wiper link rod No. 1 to the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly.
    6.  
    7. Apply MP grease to the pivot of the windshield wiper link assembly.
    8.  
    9. Install the windshield wiper link rod No. 1 to the pivot of the windshield wiper link assembly.
    10.  
    11. Install the windshield wiper link rod No. 2 to the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly.
    12.

  3. Install the windshield wiper motor and link assembly with the 2 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm). Connect the connector.
  4.  
  5. Engage the 11 claws, then install the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly with the 2 clips.
  6.  
  7. Operate the wiper, and stop the windshield wiper motor at the automatic stop position.
  8.  
  9. Clean the wiper arm serrations.
  10.  
  11. Clean the wiper pivot serrations with a wire brush.
  12.  
  13. Install the front wiper arm and blade assembly (left or right) with the nuts. Tighten the nuts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm). Hold the arm hinge by hand to fasten the nut.

  15. Check and adjust the installation of the left wiper arm to the following position:

    A: 0.59-1.18 inch (15-30mm)
     
    B: 1.57 inch (40mm)

  17. Check and adjust the installation of the right wiper arm to the following position:

    A: 0.73-1.32 inch (18.5-33.5mm)
     
    B: 0.79 inch (20mm)

  19. Operate the front wipers while spraying washer fluid on the windshield glass. Make sure that the front wipers function properly and there is no interference with the vehicle body.
  20.  
  21. Install the front wiper arm head cap. Use the same procedures for the right side and the left side.
  22.  
  23. Install the left and right roof drip side finish mouldings.
  24.  
  25. Install the left and right front upper fender protectors as follows:


    1. Engage the claw and the 3 clips then install the front upper fender protector.
    2.  
    3. Engage the clip on the rubber portion of the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly to the front upper fender protector.
    4.

  27. Install the left and right engine room side covers.
  28.  
  29. Install the cool air intake duct seal.

  1. Remove the wiper arm and blade assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the cowl louver weatherstrip from the hood.
  4.  
  5. Raise up the front side of the cowl louver and remove the cowl louver.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wiper motor and link assembly as follows:


    1. Remove the 4 set bolts.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    4.  
    5. Raise the front side of the wiper motor and link assembly up and remove the wiper motor and link assembly.
    6.  
    7. Remove the wiper motor cover.
    8.  

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor and link assembly as follows:


    1. Install the wiper motor cover.
    2.  
    3. Install the wiper motor and link assembly.
    4.  
    5. Connect the connector.
    6.  
    7. Install and torque the 4 bolts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    8.  

  2.  
  3. With the front side of the louver raised, install the protector on the glass, then push the louver down.
  4.  
  5. Install the hood to cowl louver weatherstrip.
  6.  
  7. Install the wiper arm and blade assembly as follows:


    1. Install the wiper arms and blades, and operate the wipers once, then turn the wiper switch OFF.
    2.  
    3. Torque the sub arm stay set bolt to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).

    5. Adjust the installation positions of the wiper arms and blades to the positions shown in the illustration.

      A: Driver-s blade - Louver seal, approx. 3.150 inches (80mm)
       
      B: Passenger-s blade - Louver seal, approx. 0.984 inch (25mm)
       

    6.  
    7. Torque the nuts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
    8.

  1. Remove the bolt and nut, then remove the left front wiper arm.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nut and the right front wiper arm.
  4.  
  5. Disengage the clamp, remove the right and left front fender-to-cowl side seal.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly as follows:


    1. Using a clip remover, disengage the 4 clips.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 clips, and disengage the 9 claws.
    4.  
    5. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
    6.  

  8.  
  9. Disconnect the connector, remove the 4 bolts and the windshield wiper motor & link assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the windshield wiper motor assembly as follows:


    1. Remove the wiper motor cover and rubber cover.
    2.  
    3. Using a screwdriver, disengage the meshing of the rod at the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly.
    4.  
    5. Remove the nut and washer.
    6.  
    7. Put matchmarks on the crank arm assembly and windshield wiper motor assembly (when reinstalling the windshield wiper motor assy).
    8.  
    9. Remove the 3 bolts and windshield wiper motor assembly from the windshield wiper link assembly.
    10.

To install:

  1. Install the windshield wiper motor assembly as follows:


    1. Apply MP grease to the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly.
    2.  
    3. Install the windshield wiper motor assembly with the 3 bolts and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Align the matchmarks on the crank arm assembly to windshield wiper motor assembly (when reinstalling the windshield wiper motor assembly).
    6.  
    7. Install the crank arm assembly with the washer and nut and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Engage the meshing of the rod to the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly.
    10.  

  2.  
  3. Install the windshield wiper motor and link assembly with the 4 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm). Connect the connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly as follows:


    1. Engage the 9 claws and install the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
    2.  
    3. Install the 2 clips.
    4.  
    5. Engage the 4 clips.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Engage the clamp and install the right and left front fender-to-cowl side seal.
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arms as follows:


    1. Scrape off the wiper arm serration with a round file or equivalent.
    2.  
    3. Clean the wiper pivot serration with a wire brush.
    4.  
    5. Install the front wiper arm with the bolt (left) and nut (left and right). Torque the bolt to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm) and the nuts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). Hold down the arm hinge by hand in order to fasten the bolt (left) and nut (left and right).

  11. Inspect each of the wiper arm positions for the following positions after operating the wipers once and turning the wiper switch OFF.

    A: 1.18-1.57 inch (30-40mm)
     
    B: 2.56-3.35 inches (65-85mm)

  13. Operate the wipers while spraying water or washer fluid on the windshield. Ensure that the wipers function properly and there is no interference with the body.
  14.
