Testing

NOTE
-Cold- and -Hot- in these sentences express the temperature of the coils themselves.-Cold- is from -10°C (14°F) to 50°C (122°F) and -Hot- is from 50°C (122°F) to 100°C (212°F).

  1. Perform the spark test as follows:

    1. Remove the top portion of the intake manifold (intake air surge tank)
    2.
    3. Remove the ignition coils.
    4.
    5. Using a 0.63 inch (16mm) plug wrench, remove the all spark plugs.
    6.
    7. Install the spark plugs to each ignition coil, and connect the ignition coil connectors.
    8.
    9. Disconnect the injector connectors.
    10.
    11. Ground the spark plugs.
    12.
    13. Check if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.
      NOTE
Do not crank the engine for more than 2 seconds.

    14.

  2.
  3. If the spark does not occur, perform the following:

    1. Check connection of the ignition coil with the ignitor connected and if loose, connect securely.
    2.
    3. Change to a known good ignition coil with ignitor and perform the spark test again.
    4.
    5. If spark occurs, replace ignition coil with ignitor
    6.
    7. If spark does not occur, check the power supply to ignition coil with ignitor
    8.
