Brake Pads

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Hold the sliding pin on the lower mounting bolt and remove the bolt. Swivel the caliper upward and out of the way.

    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Brake pads, retainers and anti-squeal shims
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Pad support plates and the pad wear indicator plate on the inside pad
     
    Both pads (and anti-squeal shims) with the wear indicator plates facing downward
     

  2.  
  3. Compress the caliper pistons and install the caliper.

    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Hold the sliding pin and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and temporarily fasten the disc with the hub nuts.
  4.  
  5. Hold the sliding pin on the bottom and loosen the installation bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the installation bolt.
  8.  
  9. Lift up the caliper and suspend it securely. Do not disconnect the flexible hose from the caliper.
  10.  
  11. Remove 2 anti-squeal springs.
  12.  
  13. Remove 2 brake pads with 4 anti-squeal shims.
  14.  
  15. Remove 4 pad support plates.
    NOTE
    The anti-squeal springs and lower side support plates can be used again provided that they have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.

To install:

  1. Using cleaner, wipe off dust, water, oil, etc, from the pad support plate contact area of the torque plate.
  2.  
  3. Remove the pad support cover sheets from a new pad support plate.
  4.  
  5. Install the new pad support plates.
    NOTE
    When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims and upper side support plates must be replaced together with the pads.

  6.  
  7. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shim.
  8.  
  9. Install the 2 anti-squeal shims on each pad.
  10.  
  11. Install the inner pad with the pad wear indictor plates facing downward.
  12.  
  13. Install the outer pad.
  14.  
  15. Install the 2 anti-squeal springs.
  16.  
  17. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir.
  18.  
  19. Press in the piston with a hammer handle or similar implement. If the piston is difficult to push in, loosen the bleeder plug and push in the piston while letting some brake fluid escape.
  20.  
  21. Install the caliper.
  22.  
  23. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the installation bolt to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
  24.  
  25. Install the front wheel.
  26.  
  27. Depress brake pedal several times.
  28.  
  29. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  30.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Support the caliper. Do NOT allow to hang by the brake hose



    Front wheel
     
    2 bolts and remove the disc brake caliper assembly
     



    2 anti-squeal springs
     
    Pads with anti-squeal shims
     
    Disc brake support plates
     
    Slide pins
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Slide pins
     
    Disc brake pad support plate
     
    Anti-squeal shims to each pad
     

  2.  
  3. Using a suitable tool, compress the piston carefully in the cylinder bores

    Inner pad with the wear indicator plate facing upward
     
    Install outer pad
     
    Caliper. Tighten the 2 bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
     
    Front wheel
