NOTE
Before adjusting the parking brake, make sure that the rear brake shoe clearance has been adjusted.

  1. Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting nut until the pedal travel is correct.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the lock nut to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).

  1. Depress the parking brake pedal. Hold the No. 1 wire adjusting nut using a wrench and loosen the lock nut.
  2.  
  3. Release the parking brake pedal.
  4.  
  5. Turn the No. 1 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake pedal travel is at 7-9 notches at 67.5 lbf. (300 N).
  6.  
  7. Hold the wire adjusting No. 1 nut using a wrench or equivalent tool and tighten the lock nut to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Count the number of clicks after depressing and releasing the parking brake pedal 3 or 4 times.
  10.  
  11. Check whether the parking brake drags or not.
  12.  
  13. When operating the parking brake pedal, check that the parking brake indicator light comes on.
  14.

NOTE
Before adjusting the parking brake, make sure that the rear brake shoe clearance has been adjusted.

  1. Remove the cup holder.
  2.  
  3. Using a socket driver and spanner wrench, remove the adjusting lock nut. Tape the socket driver tip before use.
  4.  
  5. Turn the adjusting nut until the lever travel is correct at 44.1 lbf. (196 N) at 5-8 clicks.
  6.  
  7. Install the adjusting lock nut.
  8.  
  9. Using a socket driver and spanner wrench, tighten the adjusting lock nut to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the cup holder.
  12.

  1. Remove the instrument panel safety pad No. 1.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting nut until the pedal travel is correct at 44 lbf. (300 N) at 7-9 clicks.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the lock nut to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the instrument panel safety pad No. 1.
  8.
