Removal & Installation

The 2006 LEXUS GS 300 and GS 430 models are equipped with electronic power steering. These models do not utilize a power steering (vane ) pump assembly or power steering fluid.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any work.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 16 bolts and the engine under cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the clip and disconnect the return hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the union bolt and gasket and disconnect the pressure feed tube.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the connector, then remove the 2 bolts and PS vane pump assembly.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the PS vane pump assembly with the 2 bolts and tighten to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm). Connect the connector.
  2.  
  3. Connect the pressure feed tube and a new gasket with the union bolt and tighten to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the return hose with the clip.
  6.  
  7. Install the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Install the engine under cover with the 16 bolts.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Bleed the power steering system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any work.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 16 bolts and the engine under cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 bolts and right rear engine under cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt and air cleaner inlet.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the MAF meter connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the clamp, then remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose.
  16.  
  17. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 2 clips and 2 vacuum hoses.
  20.  
  21. Remove the clip and disconnect the return hose.
  22.  
  23. Remove the union bolt and gasket and disconnect the pressure feed tube.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and PS vane pump assembly.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Install the PS vane pump assembly with the nut and 2 bolts. Tighten the nut to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm), and the bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the pressure feed tube and a new gasket with the union bolt and tighten to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the return hose with the clip.
  6.  
  7. Connect the 2 vacuum hoses with the 2 clips.
  8.  
  9. Install the accessory drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose with the 3 bolts and install the clamp.
  12.  
  13. Connect the MAF meter connector.
  14.  
  15. Install the air cleaner inlet with the bolt.
  16.  
  17. Install the RH rear engine under cover with the 2 bolts.
  18.  
  19. Install the engine under cover with the 16 bolts.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.  
  23. Bleed the power steering system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any work.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the clip and disconnect the return hose. Take care not to spill fluid on the A/C compressor rotor.
  10.  
  11. Using a spanner (24mm) to hold the pressure port union, remove the union bolt and gasket and disconnect the pressure feed tube.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 bolts and PS vane pump assembly.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the PS vane pump assembly with the 2 bolts. Tighten the 28mm size bolt to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm), and the 45mm size bolt to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Using a spanner (24mm) to hold the pressure port union, connect the pressure feed tube and a new gasket with the union bolt and tighten to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the return hose with the clip.
  6.  
  7. Install the accessory drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Bleed the power steering system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any work.
  6.  
  7. Remove the No. 1 and No. 2 engine under covers.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the MAF meter connector.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the clamp, then remove the 4 bolts and air cleaner assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 4 clips, then disconnect the pressure and return hoses.
  16.  
  17. Remove the union bolt and gasket and disconnect the pressure feed tube.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 7 bolts and stay with the oil reservoir, then remove the 3 bolts from the stay.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and PS vane pump assembly.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Install the PS vane pump assembly with the 2 bolts and nut. Tighten the bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm), and the nut to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the oil reservoir to the stay with the 3 bolts. Tighten the 7 bolts and install the stay with the reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Connect the pressure feed tube and a new gasket with the union bolt and tighten to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the pressure and return hoses. Install the 4 clips.
  8.  
  9. Install the accessory drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner assembly with the 4 bolts and install the clamp.
  12.  
  13. Connect the MAF meter connector.
  14.  
  15. Install the No. 1 and No. 2 engine under covers. Tighten the bolts and screws.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.  
  19. Bleed the power steering system.

NOTE
When using a vise, do not over tighten.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any work.
  6.  
  7. Drain the power steering fluid.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 16 bolts and the engine under cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 bolts and the right rear engine under cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolt and air cleaner inlet No. 1.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the MAF meter connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the clamp, then remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner.
  18.  
  19. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  20.  
  21. Remove the vane pump assembly as follows:


    1. Remove the return hose, 2 vacuum hoses and 3 clips.
    2.  
    3. Remove the pressure feed hose union bolt, pressure feed tube and gasket.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and vane pump.
    6.

  23. Using SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) to stop the pulley from rotating, remove the pulley set nut.
  24.  

To install:


NOTE
When installing the parts indicated by arrows, coat them with power steering fluid.

  1. Install the vane pump pulley as follows:


    1. Install the vane pump pulley to the vane pump shaft.
    2.  
    3. Using SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000), stop the vane pump pulley rotation and install the nut.
    4.  
    5. Tighten the nut to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
    6.

  3. Install the vane pump assembly as follows:


    1. Install the power steering vane pump with the nut. Tighten the nut to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Install the 2 bolts and tighten them to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Install the pressure feed tube and a new gasket to the pressure feed hose union bolt. Tighten the union bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Connect the return hose with the clip.
    8.  
    9. Connect the 2 vacuum hoses with the 2 clips.
    10.  

  4.  
  5. Install the accessory drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly with the 3 bolts and install the clamp.
  8.  
  9. Connect the MAF meter connector.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner inlet with the bolt.
  12.  
  13. Install the under cover with the 2 bolts.
  14.  
  15. Install the under cover with the 16 bolts.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.  
  19. Bleed the power steering system and inspect for leaks.
