Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Brake line at the caliper, then plug it
     
    Mounting bolts and the caliper assembly
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Temporarily install the caliper on the torque plate with the 2 installation bolts.
  2.  
  3. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the mounting bolts to (except SC 430) 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm), Sc 430 tighten to 77 ft. lbs. (104 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the brake line with 2 new gaskets and tighten the union to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Refill the reservoir as necessary and bleed the brake system.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the union bolt and gasket from the caliper, then disconnect the flexible hose from the caliper. Use a container to catch the brake fluid as it drains out.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 installation bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper from the torque plate.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the caliper onto the torque plate.
  2.  
  3. Install the 2 installation bolts and tighten to 77 ft. lbs. (104 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the flexible hose lock securely in the lock hole in the caliper. Connect the brake line with a new gasket and tighten the union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
  6.  
  7. After installation, fill brake reservoir with brake fluid, bleed brake system.
  8.  
  9. Check system for leaks.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear wheel.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Brake line at the caliper
     
    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Mounting bolts, while holding the sliding pin with a wrench
     
    Caliper assembly
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Caliper. Tighten the mounting bolts to 77 ft. lbs. (104 Nm) for 2000-05 models, and 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) for 2006 models.
     
    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Connect the brake line with 2 new gaskets and tighten the union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
     

  2.  
  3. Bleed the brake system.

    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Check and if necessary fill the master cylinder reservoir.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.

  7. Hold the sliding pin and loosen the 2 installation bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 installation bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the caliper from the torque plate.

To install:

  1. Install the caliper onto the torque plate.

  3. Install the 2 installation bolts and tighten to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

  5. Connect the brake line with 2 new gaskets and tighten the union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
  6.  
  7. After installation, fill brake reservoir with brake fluid, bleed brake system.
  8.  
  9. Check system for leaks.

  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the brake line at the caliper.

  7. Hold the sliding pin with a wrench and remove the mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper assembly.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the caliper. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the brake line with 2 new gaskets and tighten the union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheels.
  8.  
  9. Check and if necessary fill the master cylinder reservoir.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the brake line at the caliper by removing the union bolt and 2 gaskets.
  6.  
  7. Hold the sliding pin with a wrench and then remove the mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper from the caliper support.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the caliper to the caliper support.
  2.  
  3. Install the caliper bolts. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the brake line with (2) new gaskets and tighten the union to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Bleed the brake system.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheels.
  10.  
  11. Check and fill the master cylinder reservoir, if needed.
