  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and temporarily fasten the disc with the 3 hub nuts.
  4.  
  5. Disengage the anti-squeal spring from brake caliper and remove the anti-squeal spring.
    NOTE
    The clip and anti-squeal spring can be used again provided that they have sufficient rebound, no-deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.

  6.  
  7. Remove the clip and pad guide pin.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 pads.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 4 anti-squeal shims from each pad.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

  1. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of inner anti-squeal shims.
  2.  
  3. Install the 2 anti-squeal shims on each pad. Make sure the arrows on the inner anti-squeal shims face the direction of disc rotation.
  4.  
  5. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir.
  6.  
  7. Press in the pistons with a monkey wrench handle or equivalent. Tape the monkey wrench handle before use. If the piston is difficult to push in, loosen the bleeder plug and push in the piston while letting some brake fluid escape.
  8.  
  9. Install the 2 pads.
  10.  
  11. Install the pad guide pin and clip.
  12.  
  13. Install the anti-squeal spring. Ensure that the claw of the anti-squeal spring is raised up on the caliper securely. Ensure that there is no gap between the pad guide pin and anti-squeal spring.
  14.  
  15. Install the rear wheel.
  16.  
  17. Depress brake pedal several times.
  18.  
  19. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  20.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Hold the sliding pin on the lower mounting bolt and remove the bolt. Swivel the caliper upward and out of the way.

    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Brake pads, retainers and anti-squeal shims
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Pad support plates and the pad wear indicator plate on the inside pad
     
    Both pads (and anti-squeal shims) with the wear indicator plates facing downward
     

  2.  
  3. Compress the caliper pistons and install the caliper.

    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Hold the sliding pin and tighten the mounting bolts to 77 ft. lbs. (104 Nm) for 2000-05 models, and 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) for 2006 models.
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and temporarily fasten the disc with the 3 hub nuts.
  4.  
  5. Hold the sliding pin on the bottom and loosen the installation bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the installation bolt.
  8.  
  9. Lift up the caliper and suspend it securely. Do not disconnect the flexible hose from the caliper.
  10.  
  11. Remove 2 anti-squeal springs.
  12.  
  13. Remove 2 brake pads with 4 anti-squeal shims.
  14.  
  15. Remove 4 pad support plates.
    NOTE
    The anti-squeal springs can be used again provided that they have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.

To install:


NOTE
When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims and upper side support plates must be replaced together with the pads.

  1. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shim.
  2.  
  3. Install the 2 anti-squeal shims on each pad.
  4.  
  5. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir.
  6.  
  7. Press in the piston with a hammer handle or similar implement. If the piston is difficult to push in, loosen the bleeder plug and push in the piston while letting some brake fluid escape.
  8.  
  9. Install the caliper.
  10.  
  11. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the installation bolt to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
  12.  
  13. Install the rear wheel.
  14.  
  15. Depress brake pedal several times.
  16.  
  17. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  18.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Clip and guide pin
     
    Disc pads
     
    4 anti-squeal shims from each pad
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Make sure that the arrows on the anti-squeal shims face the direction of wheel rotation.



    Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims
     
    Install 2 shims on each pad
     

  2.  
  3. Using a suitable tool, compress the piston carefully in the cylinder bores

    Install pads
     
    Anti-squeal springs
     
    Rear wheel
