Relieving Fuel System Pressure

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuse for the electronic fuel pump.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine until the engine stalls.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  8.  
  9. Place a catch-pan under the joint to be disconnected. A large quantity of fuel may be released when the joint is opened.
  10.  
  11. Wear eye or full-face protection.
  12.  
  13. Place a shop towel over the area and slowly release the joint using a wrench of the correct size.
  14.  
  15. Allow the any fuel left in the line to bleed off slowly before fully disconnecting the joint.
  16.  
  17. Plug the opened lines immediately to prevent fuel spillage or the entry of dirt.
  18.  
  19. Dispose of the released fuel properly.
  20.  
  21. After connecting fuel lines, install the fuse for the fuel pump and start the engine.
  22.  
  23. Check for leaks and repair as needed.
