Print

Some vehicles covered in this book require a System Initialization be performed after certain procedures in which the negative battery cable has been disconnected.

  1. Perform system initialization (which includes power window control system, sliding roof system, clearance sonar system and variable gear ratio steering system) procedure as follows:

    Power window control system

    1. Turn the ignition switch on.
    2.
    3. Open power window halfway by pressing power window switch.
    4.

    7. Check that the AUTO UP / DOWN function operates normally.
      NOTE
If the remote UP / DOWN function does not operate after the conditions 1, 2, or 3 is satisfied, the power window regulator master switch may have a malfunction.

      Sliding roof system

    8.
    9. Turn the ignition switch on.
    10.
    11. If the sliding roof is opened, close it fully.
    12.

    16.
    17. Finish the initialization.
    18.
    19. Check that the operation works normally with AUTO operation.

      Clearance sonar system

    20.
    21. Turn the ignition switch on.
    22.
    23. Turn the clearance sonar main switch ON.

    26.
    27. Confirm that the learning operation has been completed by checking the multi-information display.
    28.
    29. At an area with few turns and curves, and minimal traffic, drive at 20 km/h or more for 5 minutes or more.

      Variable gear ratio steering system

    30.
    31. Turn the ignition switch on, and check that the master warning light and VSC/ABS warning lights illuminate for a few seconds.
      NOTE
If the warning lights remain on or blink, repair the applicable system.

    32.
    33. Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for 5 seconds or longer.
    34.
    35. Confirm that steering angle sensor initialization is completed by doing the following:

Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 60 km/h (37 mph) or more for 30 seconds or longer.

      Stop the vehicle (engine running).

Slowly turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.

If it turns approximately 2.7 turns, steering angle sensor initialization is completed. If it turns approximately 3.2 turns, steering angle sensor initialization is not completed.
