Wiper Motor



Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the wiper arms.
  2.  
  3. Remove the weatherstrip.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cowl louver.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the connector, remove the 5 bolts and wiper link assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 screws and wiper motor from the wiper link.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor with the 2 screws to the wipe link.
  2.  
  3. Install the wiper link assembly with the 5 bolts to the body and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm). Connect the connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the cowl louver.
  6.  
  7. Install the weatherstrip.
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arms as follows:


    1. Install the wiper arms and tighten the nuts by hand. Operate the wipers once and turn the wiper switch OFF.

    3. Adjust the installation of the wiper arms to the positions as shown in the illustration.

      A: Approx. 1.142 inch (29mm)
       
      B: Approx. 1.516 inch (38.5mm)
       
      C: Approx. 0.984 inch (25mm)
       
      D: Approx. 0.669 inch (17mm)
       

    4.  
    5. Torque the 2 nuts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait 90 seconds before doing any further work while the airbag system de-energizes.
  2.  
  3. Remove the cool air intake duct seal.
  4.  
  5. Using a clip remover, remove the 3 clips and left engine room side cover.
  6.  
  7. Using a clip remover, detach the 3 claws and remove the left and right front pillar-to-front side seal sub-assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nut, left wiper arm and blade.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nut, right wiper arm and blade.
  12.  
  13. Pull the cowl side seal inward, toward the lower center of the windshield to detach the 2 claws and remove the left front frnder-to-cowl side seal. Use this same procedure for the right side as described for the left side.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly as follows:


    1. Remove the 2 clips and detach the 5 claws.
    2.  
    3. Pull the ventilator louver toward the front of the vehicle to detach the 10 claws and remove the ventilator louver.
    4.

  17. Remove the wiper motor and link assembly as follows:


    1. Disconnect the connector. Then detach the 2 clamps and remove the wire harness from the cowl top panel.

    3. Remove the 4 bolts and wiper motor and link. The 2 bolts labeled (A) in the illustration cannot be removed from the wiper motor and link because they are integrated into the wiper motor and link.

  19. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the rod of the wiper link from the wiper motor. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 3 bolts and wiper motor.
    NOTE
    Rotate the crank arm as necessary to remove the bolts.

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor assembly as follows:


    1. Install the wiper motor with the 3 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 47 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm)
    2.  
    3. Apply MP grease to the crank arm pivot of the wiper motor.
    4.  
    5. Install the rod of the wiper link to the crank arm.
    6.

  3. Install the wiper motor and link assembly as follows:


    1. Install the wiper motor and link assembly with the 4 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Connect the connector. Then attach the 2 clamps to install the wire harness to the cowl top panel.
    4.

  5. Install the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly as follows:


    1. Push the ventilator louver toward the windshield.
    2.  
    3. Attach the 10 claws to install the ventilator louver.
    4.  
    5. Attach the 5 claws and 2 clips to install the ventilator louver.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Push the left front fender-to-cowl side seal in the direction toward the outside of the vehicle. Attach the 2 claws to install the cowl side seal. Use this same procedure for the right side as described for the left side.
  8.  
  9. Install the (left and right) wiper arm and blade assembly as follows:


    1. Stop the wiper motor at the automatic stop position.
    2.  
    3. Clean the wiper arm serration with a round file or equivalent.
    4.  
    5. Clean the wiper pivot serration with a wire brush.
    6.  
    7. Install the wiper arm and blade with the nut. Make sure that the wiper arm and blade comes to the position shown in the illustration. Tighten the nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm). Hold down the wiper arm hinge with your hand while tightening the nut.

  11. Check and adjust the installation of the left wiper arm to the following position:

    A: 0.996 inch (25.3mm)
     
    B: 1.031 inch (26.2mm)

  13. Check and adjust the installation of the right wiper arm to the following position:

    A: 0.858 inch (21.8mm)
     
    B: 1.138 inch (28.9mm)

  15. Operate the front wipers while spraying washer fluid on the windshield glass. Make sure that the front wipers function properly and there is no interference with the vehicle body.
  16.  
  17. Install the left engine room side cover with the 3 clips.
  18.  
  19. Attach the 3 clips to install the left front pillar-to-side seal sub-assembly. Use this same procedure for the right side as described for the left side.
  20.  
  21. Install the cool air intake duct seal.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.  
  25. Perform system initialization procedure.

  1. Remove the wiper arms.
  2.  
  3. Using a screwdriver, remove the 11 clips and hood-to-cowl top seal. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right cowl top ventilator louver as follows:


    1. Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clips.
    2.  
    3. Lift up the front part of the right cowl top ventilator louver and pull the louver off.
    4.  
    5. Use this same procedure for the left side as described for the right side.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Remove the front wiper motor cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wiper motor and link assembly as follows:


    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2.  
    3. Using a clip remover, remove the wire harness clamp.
    4.  
    5. Using a clip remover, remove the wiper motor connector.
    6.  
    7. Unfasten the 5 bolts, then slip the wiper motor and link assembly toward the right (from the driver side), lift up the back part and remove the wiper motor and link assembly.
    8.  
    9. Attach protective tape to the lower part of the windshield glass to prevent it from being damage.
    10.

  11. Remove the wiper motor as follows:


    1. Remove the band clamp.
    2.  
    3. Remove the screw and No.1 link rod from wiper motor.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 3 screws and wiper motor.
    6.

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor as follows:


    1. Install the wiper motor with 3 screws to the wiper link frame. Tighten the screws to 48 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Install the No.1 link rod with screw to the wiper motor.
    4.  
    5. Install a new band clamp.
    6.

  3. Install the wiper motor and link assembly as follows:


    1. Lift up the back part of the wiper motor and link assembly and install the wiper motor and link assembly.
      NOTE
      Attach protective tape to the lower part of the windshield glass to prevent it from being damaged.

    2.  
    3. Slip the wiper motor and link assembly in the direction toward the left (from the passenger side).
    4.  
    5. Tighten the center bolt, then tighten the right and left side bolts. Tighten the bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Install the wiper motor connector.
    8.  
    9. Install the wire harness clamp.
    10.  
    11. Connect the connector.
    12.  

  4.  
  5. Install the front wiper motor cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the left and right cowl top ventilator louvers.
  8.  
  9. Install the hood-to-cowl top seal.
  10.  
  11. Install the wiper arms as follows:


    1. Operate the wipers once and turn the wiper switch OFF.
    2.  
    3. Install the wiper arms and tighten nuts by hand.

    5. Adjust the installation position of the wiper arms to the position shown in the illustration.

      A: 1.18-1.77 inch (30-45mm)
       
      B: 1.14-1.73 inch (29-44mm)

    7. Torque the nuts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

  1. Remove the right wiper arm assembly as follows:


    1. Stop the wiper at the automatic stop position.
    2.  
    3. Remove the nut and arm.
    4.

  3. Remove the nut and left wiper arm assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly as follows:


    1. Detach the 5 claws and remove the 4 clips.
    2.  
    3. Detach the 8 claws and remove the louver.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Remove the windshield wiper link assembly as follows:


    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 4 bolts and link.
    4.  

  8.  
  9. Remove the wiper motor assembly as follows:


    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the meshing of the rod at the crank arm pivot of the wiper motor.
    2.  
    3. Remove the nut and washer.
    4.  
    5. Place matchmarks on the crank arm and wiper motor.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 3 bolts and windshield wiper motor from the link.
    8.

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor assembly as follows:


    1. Apply MP grease to the crank arm pivot of the wiper motor.
    2.  
    3. Install the wiper motor. Tighten the bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Align the matchmarks on the crank arm and wiper motor.
    6.  
    7. Install the washer and nut. Tighten the nut to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
    8.

  3. Install the windshield wiper link assembly as follows:


    1. Install the link with the 4 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Connect the connector.
    4.

  5. Install the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the left and right wiper arm assemblies as follows:


    1. Stop the wiper at the automatic stop position.
    2.  
    3. Clean the wiper arm serration with a round file or equivalent.
    4.  
    5. Clean the wiper pivot serration with a wire brush.

    6.  
    7. Install the arm & blade with the nut. Make sure that the arm & blade comes to the position shown in the illustration. Tighten the nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
    8.

  9. Operate the wipers while spraying water or washer fluid on the windshield. Check the wiping condition and that the wiper does not hit against the vehicle body.
