NOTE
Disconnecting the negative battery cable on some vehicles may interfere with the functions of the on board computer system. The computer may undergo a relearning process once the negative battery cable is reconnected.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the transmission.
  4.  
  5. Remove the hood.
  6.  
  7. Remove the V-bank cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the under-covers.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fan shroud.
  16.  
  17. Tag and disconnect all hoses, pipes and wires necessary for engine removal.
  18.  
  19. Remove the fan.
  20.  
  21. Remove the power steering pump and secure it out of the way.
  22.  
  23. Remove the alternator and secure it out of the way.
  24.  
  25. Remove the compressor and secure it out of the way.
  26.  
  27. Remove the transmission filler tube.
  28.  
  29. Remove the oil level sending unit.
  30.  
  31. Remove the exhaust manifolds.
  32.  
  33. Attach a crane and equalizer to the engine.
  34.  
  35. Support the weight of the engine with the crane and remove the mount bolts.
  36.  
  37. Remove the engine.
  38.  
  39. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Engine mount bolts: 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm)
     
    Exhaust manifold nuts: 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm)
     
    Oil level sending unit: 11 ft. lbs. 15 Nm)
     
    Fan bolts: 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm)
     
    Compressor: bolt, 34 ft. lbs. (47 Nm); nut, 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
     
    Power steering pump: 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm)
     
    Hood: 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm)
