  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  4.  
  5. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the horn pad.
  8.  
  9. Remove the steering wheel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower steering column cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the turn signal switch.
  14.  
  15. Remove the spiral cable assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front wheels.
  18.  
  19. Remove the engine under-covers.
  20.  
  21. Remove the stabilizer bar.
  22.  
  23. Remove the tie rod ends from the knuckle.
  24.  
  25. Remove the steering intermediate shaft.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the pressure and return lines.
  28.  
  29. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the steering gear assembly.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Position the gear and install the 2 bolts. Torque to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
    NOTE
    The nuts have detents. Never turn the nuts, just the bolts.

  3. Install the stabilizer bar. Torque the end links to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm); the clamp bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the return line. Use a torque wrench with SST 09023-12700, or equivalent. The torque wrench should have a fulcrum length of 300mm. Torque to 31 ft. lbs. (42 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the pressure line at the sub-frame. Torque to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the pressure line to the gear. Use a torque wrench with SST 09023-12700, or equivalent. The torque wrench should have a fulcrum length of 300mm. Torque to 31 ft. lbs. (42 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect the intermediate shaft. Torque to 26 ft. lbs. (36 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the tie rod ends. Torque to 67 ft. lbs. (91 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the under-covers.
  16.  
  17. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
