Parking Brake Shoes

Adjustment



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.
  4.  
  5. Return the adjuster 8 notches.
  6.  
  7. Depress the parking brake pedal with 147 N (33 lbs).
  8.  
  9. Drive the vehicle at about 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level and dry road for about 400 meters (0.25 mile) in this condition.
  10.  
  11. Repeat this procedure 2 or 3 times.
  12.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 mounting bolts and remove the disc brake assembly.
  8.  
  9. Suspend the disc brake securely and so the hose is not stretched.
  10.  
  11. Release the parking brake lever.
  12.  
  13. Place matchmarks on the disc and rear axle hub.
  14.  
  15. Remove the disc.
    NOTE
    If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn the shoe adjuster until the wheel turns freely.

  16.  
  17. Using needle-nose pliers, remove the 2 shoe return springs.
    NOTE
    At the time of reassembly, install the strut with the spring facing forward.

  18.  
  19. Slide the front shoe toward outside and remove the shoe adjuster.
  20.  
  21. Using a needle-nose pliers, disconnect the anchor spring and tension spring from the front shoe.
  22.  
  23. Using a needle-nose pliers, disconnect the anchor spring and tension spring from the rear shoe.
  24.  
  25. Installation is the reverse of removal.
