Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Timing belt.
     
    No. 2 idler pulley
     
    Radiator hose
     
    Bypass hose
     
    Water inlet housing assembly
     
    Water pump

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Water pump. Use a new gasket and tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm). Tighten the stud bolt and nut to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
     
    Water inlet housing assembly. Use a new O-ring and apply sealant as shown. Tighten the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
     
    Bypass hose
     
    Radiator hose
     
    No. 2 idler pulley
     
    Timing belt
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Timing belt.
     
    No. 2 idler pulley
     
    Radiator hose
     
    Bypass hose
     
    Water inlet housing assembly

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Water pump. Use a new gasket and tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm). Tighten the stud bolt and nut to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
     
    Water inlet housing assembly. Use a new O-ring and apply sealant as shown. Tighten the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
     
    Bypass hose
     
    Radiator hose
     
    No. 2 idler pulley
     
    Timing belt
     
    Negative battery cable

  3. Fill the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine undercover.
  6.  
  7. Drain the cooling system.
  8.  
  9. Remove the v-bank cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the intake air pipe.
  12.  
  13. Remove the A/C compressor and set aside with the lines attached.
  14.  
  15. Remove the drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Remove the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Remove the oil cooler pipe.
  20.  
  21. Remove the timing belt.
  22.  
  23. Remove the number 2 timing belt idler pulley sub assembly.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the water bypass hose from the water inlet housing.
  26.  
  27. Remove the bolts, nuts and stud attaching the inlet housing to the water pump.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the hose from the inlet housing front joint and remove the inlet housing.
  30.  
  31. Remove the water pump bolts, gasket and the O-ring from the by-pass pipe.
  32.  

To install:

  1. Coat a new O-ring with soapy water, install the O-ring on the pipe end and connect the water pump to the by-pass pipe.
  2.  
  3. Using a new gasket, install the water pump. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm), the nuts and stud to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Clean all packing material from the water inlet housing gasket surfaces and sealing groove.
  6.  
  7. Apply a 0.078-0.118 inch (2-3 mm) bead of sealant to the inlet housing.
  8.  
  9. Install a new O-ring to the inlet housing and lube the O-ring with soapy water.
  10.  
  11. Attach the inlet housing end to the water by-pass tube.
  12.  
  13. Install the assembly and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the idler pulley sub-assembly and tighten to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the timing belt.
  18.  
  19. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.
  20.  
  21. Fill the cooling system.
  22.  
  23. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  24.
