Pneumatic Front Strut

Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the wheels.
  2.  


NOTE
Before disconnecting the air tube, press the height control OFF SW to disable the system.

  1. Remove the cowl top silencer pad.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut cap.
  4.  
  5. Remove the height control tube clamp and disconnect the tube by loosening the nut.
  6.  


NOTE
Keep the chamber of the strut from moving.

  1. Support the lower arm with a jack.
  2.  
  3. Remove the stabilizer link from the strut.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the height control sensor sub-assembly from the lower arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake hose and speed sensor wire from the strut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nuts from the 2 lower strut bolts, but leave the bolts in place.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 3 upper strut nuts.
  12.  
  13. Lower the jack slowly until the strut is free, then remove the bolts and lift out the strut.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Position the strut and install the bolts from the front side. Torque the nuts to 170 ft. lbs. (230 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Raise the arm and position the upper end. Install the nuts and torque to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the brake hose and sensor wire and torque the bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the stabilizer link. Torque the nut to 55 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  8.  
  9. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
  10.

  19. Remove the 3 upper strut nuts.
  20.  
  21. Lower the jack slowly until the strut is free, then remove the bolts and lift out the strut.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Position the strut and install the bolts from the front side. Torque the nuts to 170 ft. lbs. (230 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Raise the arm and position the upper end. Install the nuts and torque to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the brake hose and sensor wire and torque the bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the stabilizer link. Torque the nut to 55 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  8.  
  9. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
