VVT Sensor

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove air cleaner cap w/ inlet.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bank 1 VVT sensor, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the VVT sensor (bank 1) connector.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt, and then remove the bank 1 VVT sensor.

  7. Remove the bank 2 VVT sensor, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector (bank 2) from the wire harness bracket.

    3. Disconnect the bank 2 VVT sensor connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the bolt, and then remove the bank 2 VVT sensor.

  9. Inspect the VVT sensor:
    1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the accompanying chart. Standard resistance cold is 14-122°f (-10-50°c) and hot is 122-212°f (50-100°c. If the resistance is not within specifications, replace the sensor.
      NOTE
      Cold and hot refer to the temperature of the coils themselves.

To install:

  1. Install the bank 1 VVT sensor:
    1. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the o-ring on the VVT sensor (bank 1).
    2.  
    3. Install the VVT sensor (bank 1) with the bolt an tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Connect the VVT sensor (bank 1) connector.

  3. Install the bank 2 VVT sensor:
    1. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the o-ring on the VVT sensor (bank 2).
    2.  
    3. Install the VVT sensor (bank 2) with the bolt and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Connect the VVT sensor (bank 2) connector.
    6.  
    7. Install the heated oxygen sensor connector (bank 2) to the wire harness bracket.
    8.

  5. Install air cleaner cap w/ inlet.
  6.  
  7. If necessary, perform the initialization procedure, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical System.
