Oil Pump

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Make a note of the position of the each bolt. When replacing the bolts into the oil pump body, place each bolt in the position from which it was removed.



    Upper and lower oil pans
     
    Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor
     
    9 oil pump bolts
     



    Oil pump body, by prying between the oil pump and main bearing cap
     
    O-ring from the cylinder block
     
    Plug, gasket, spring and relief valve from the oil pump body
     
    9 screws, pump body cover, drive and driven rotors
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Driven rotors, drive, pump body cover, using the 9 screws
     
    Oil pump relief valve, spring, gasket and the plug to the oil pump body
     
    New O-ring on the cylinder block
     

  2.  
  3. Using a non residue solvent, clean both sealing surfaces to the oil pump.
  4.  
  5. Apply liquid sealant to the oil pump and engine block.

  7. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Be sure to engage the splined teeth of the oil pump drive gear with the large teeth of the crankshaft.

    9 oil pump bolts. Tighten the bolts in several passes to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm) for bolt -A-; 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm), for bolts -B-; 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm) for bolt -C-

    CKP sensor. Tighten the bolt to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
     
    Upper and lower oil pans
     

  8.  
  9. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Recheck the engine oil level.
  14.  
  15. If necessary, perform the initialization procedure, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical System.
