Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove caliper.
  8.  
  9. Pressing one end of outboard shoe inward to disengage shoe lug. Then rotate shoe upward until retainer spring clears caliper. Press opposite end of shoe inward to disengage shoe lug and rotate shoe up and out of caliper.

  11. Grasp ends of inboard shoe and tilt shoe outward to release springs from caliper piston and remove shoe from caliper.
    NOTE
    If original brake shoes will be used, keep them in sets left and right. They are not interchangeable.

  13. Secure caliper to nearby suspension part with wire. Do not allow brake hose to support caliper weight.
  14.  
  15. Wipe caliper off with shop rags or towels.

To install:

  1. Install inboard shoe in caliper and verify shoe retaining is fully seated into the piston.
  2.  
  3. Start one end of outboard shoe in caliper and rotate shoe downward into place. Verify shoe locating lugs and shoe spring are seated.
  4.  
  5. Install caliper.
  6.  
  7. Install wheel and tire assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove support and lower vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Pump brake pedal until caliper pistons and brake shoes are seated.
  12.  
  13. Top off brake fluid level if necessary.
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain 2 / 3 of the brake fluid from the front reservoir. Use the bleeder screw at the front outlet port to drain the fluid. If equipped with anti-lock brakes, relieve the system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheels.
  8.  
  9. Remove both caliper slide pin bushing caps and slide pins.
  10.  
  11. Lift the caliper from the anchor.
  12.  
  13. Using a piece of mechanic-s wire, support the caliper so there is not tension on the brake hose.
  14.  
  15. Remove the brake pads from the caliper.

To install:

  1. Position the brake pads onto the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Position the caliper into place on the anchor.
  4.  
  5. Coat the caliper slide pins with silicone grease and torque them to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm). Install the slide pin bushing caps.
    NOTE
    Hold the spring in the caliper hole with your thumb while prying the spring end out and under the anchor.

  6.  
  7. Fill the master cylinder with fluid and bleed the brake system.
  8.  
  9. Before driving the vehicle, pump the brakes several times to seat the pads.
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels.
  12.
