2.4L Engine




CAUTION
On vehicles equipped with the 2.4L, do not reuse the old power steering pump pulley it is not intended for reuse. A new pulley must be installed if removed.

  1. Siphon out as much power steering fluid as possible.
  2.  
  3. Remove the serpentine drive belt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the power steering high pressure hose at the pump using care not to remove the flow control valve.
  6.  
  7. Remove the return hose at the pump.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two nuts securing the wire loom behind the pump bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the three bolts securing the pump to the bracket thru the holes in the pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove the pump from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the pump to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the three bolts securing the pump to the engine. Tighten the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the two nuts securing the wire loom to the pump bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the power steering pressure and supply hoses.
  8.  
  9. Install the serpentine belt
  10.  
  11. Refill the power steering fluid and check for leaks.
  12.

To install:

  1. Install the pump to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the three bolts securing the pump to the engine. Tighten the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the two nuts securing the wire loom to the pump bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the power steering pressure and supply hoses.
  8.  
  9. Install the serpentine belt
  10.  
  11. Refill the power steering fluid and check for leaks.
  12.  

2.5L & 4.0L Engines



  1. Remove serpentine drive belt.
  2.  
  3. Remove pressure and return hoses from pump and drain the pump.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the pump bracket bolt at the engine block.
  6.  
  7. Remove 3 pump mounting bolts through pulley access holes.
  8.  
  9. Tilt pump downward and remove from engine.
  10.  
  11. Remove pulley from pump
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install pulley on pump.
  2.  
  3. Install pump on the engine mounting bracket.
  4.  
  5. Install 3 pump mounting bolts and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten pump bracket bolt to 42 ft. lbs. (57 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the pressure line on the pump and tighten to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install return hoses on pump.
  12.  
  13. Install drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Add power steering fluid
  16.  

2.8L Engine



  1. Siphon out as much power steering fluid as possible.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cooling fan.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fan shroud
  6.  
  7. Remove the serpentine drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the three bolts securing the pulley to the pump.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering hoses.
  12.  
  13. Remove the three bolts securing the pump to the bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the pump from the vehicle.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the pump to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the three bolts securing the pump to the bracket.
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering hoses.
  6.  
  7. Install the three bolts securing the pulley to the pump.
  8.  
  9. Install the serpentine belt.
  10.  
  11. Install the fan shroud
  12.  
  13. Install the engine cooling fan.
  14.  
  15. Refill the power steering fluid and bleed the system
  16.  

3.7L Engine



  1. Siphon out as much power steering fluid as possible.
  2.  
  3. Remove the radiator cross member.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine cooling fan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fan shroud
  8.  
  9. Remove the serpentine drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering high pressure hose at the pump.
  12.  
  13. Remove the return hose at the pump.
  14.  
  15. Remove the three bolts securing the pump to the bracket thru the holes in the pulley.
  16.  
  17. Remove the pump from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the pump to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the three bolts securing the pump to the engine. Tighten the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering hoses.
  6.  
  7. Install the serpentine belt.
  8.  
  9. Install the fan shroud
  10.  
  11. Install the engine cooling fan.
  12.  
  13. Install the radiator crossmember.
  14.  
  15. Refill the power steering fluid and check for leaks.
  16.
