Lower Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with ABS brakes remove sensor wire from the inboard side of the arm.
  6.  
  7. If the vehicle is equipped with a cam bolt service package paint or scribe alignment marks on the cam adjusters and suspension arm for installation reference.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower suspension arm nut and bolt from the axle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nut and bolt/cam bolt from the frame rail bracket and remove the lower suspension arm.

To install:

  1. Position the lower suspension arm in the axle bracket and frame rail bracket.
    NOTE
    Small holes in the side of the arm face inboard.

  2.  
  3. Install the rear bolt and nut finger tighten.
  4.  
  5. Install bolt/cam bolt and new nut finger tighten in the axle and align the reference marks.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with ABS brakes install sensor wire to the inboard side of the arm with new clips.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Tighten axle bracket nut to 130 ft. lbs. (176 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Tighten frame bracket nut to 130 ft. lbs. (176 Nm).
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Matchmark the front and rear control arm pivot bolts.



    Front wheel
     
    Lower clevis bracket bolt from the control arm
     
    Stabilizer link at the control arm
     
    Lower ball joint nut
     
    Control arm from lower ball joint with tool C4150A
     



    Front pivot bolt
     
    Rear pivot bolt
     
    Control arm

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm
     
    Rear pivot bolt
     
    Front pivot bolt
     
    Ball joint nut. Torque the ball joint nut to 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm)

  3. Align the matchmarks and tighten the pivot bolts to 125 ft. lbs. (170 Nm).
  4.  
  5. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the stabilizer link bolt to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm); the lower clevis bracket bolt to 110 ft. lbs. (150 Nm).
