Upper Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper suspension arm nut and bolt at the axle bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut and bolt at the frame rail and remove the upper suspension arm.

To install:

  1. Position the upper suspension arm at the axle and frame rail.
  2.  
  3. Install the bolts and finger tighten the nuts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the nut at the axle and frame brackets to 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm).
  8.  

Left Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Ball joint nut
     
    Ball joint from the knuckle
     
    Battery
     
    Power center
     
    Battery tray
     
    Battery temperature sensor
     
    Control arm rear bolt, by using a ratchet and extension under the steering shaft, positioned by the power steering reservoir
     
    Control arm front bolt
     
    Control arm
     

  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Front and rear bolts: 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm)
     
    Ball joint stud nut: 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm)

Right Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Upper ball joint nut
     
    Upper Ball joint from the knuckle
     
    Air box
     
    Cruise control servo mounting nuts
     
    Upper arm rear bolt
     
    Upper arm front bolt
     
    Upper arm
     

  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Front and rear bolts: 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm)
     
    Ball joint stud nut: 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm)
