Wheel Bearings

The front wheel bearings are not adjustable.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake caliper, rotor and ABS wheel speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cotter pin, nut retainer and axle hub nut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the hub bearing mounting bolts from the back of the steering knuckle. Remove hub bearing from the steering knuckle and off the axle shaft.

To install:

  1. Install the hub bearing and brake dust shield to the knuckle.
  2.  
  3. Install the hub bearing to knuckle bolts and tighten to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the hub washer and nut. Tighten the hub nut to 175 ft. lbs. (237 Nm). Install the nut retainer and a new cotter pin.
  6.  
  7. Install the brake rotor, caliper and ABS wheel speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove support and lower the vehicle.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper adapter.
    WARNING
    Never allow the disc brake caliper to hang from the brake hose. Damage to the brake hose will result. Provide a suitable support to hang the caliper securely.

  8.  
  9. Remove the disc brake rotor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wheel speed sensor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bracket securing the wheel speed sensor wire.
  14.  
  15. Remove the axle shaft nut, if equipped with four wheel drive.
  16.  
  17. Remove the three mounting bolts for the hub/bearing assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the hub/bearing.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the hub/bearing assembly to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the three mounting bolts for the hub/bearing. Tighten the bolt to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the axle shaft nut. Tighten the nut to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm), if equipped with four wheel drive.
  6.  
  7. Install the bracket to the wheel speed sensor wire.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel speed sensor to the hub. Tighten the bolt to 10 ft. lbs. (13.5 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the disc brake rotor.
  12.  
  13. Install the disc brake caliper adapter. Tighten the nut to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  16.
