  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
  2.  
  3. Remove the radiator cap.
  4.  
  5. Remove the condenser lower seal from the lower core support .
  6.  
  7. Drain cooling system drain coolant into a clean container for reuse.
  8.  
  9. Remove radiator upper and lower hose clamps Remove radiator hoses.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect coolant reserve/overflow tank hose from radiator.
  12.  
  13. 2.4L ONLY - Remove the electric cooling fan.
  14.  
  15. 4.0L ONLY - Remove the reservoir tank and power steering reservoir and position out of the way.
  16.  
  17. 4.0L ONLY - Remove the four fan shroud mounting bolts . Position the fan shroud back over the fan blades.
  18.  
  19. If equipped, disconnect and plug automatic transmission fluid cooler lines.
  20.  
  21. Remove six radiator mounting bolts. Position the front axle vent hose to the side.
  22.  
  23. The lower part of radiator is equipped with two alignment dowel pins . They are located on the bottom of radiator tank and fit into rubber grommets. These rubber grommets are pressed into the radiator lower crossmember.

  25. Lift radiator straight up and out of vehicle taking care not to damage radiator fins.
  26.  
  27. When removing radiator, note position of the rubber seals located on the top and bottom of radiator (on certain models only) . To prevent possible overheating, these seals must be installed to their original positions
  28.  

To install:


CAUTION
Before installing the radiator or A/C condenser, be sure the radiator-to-body and radiator-to- A/C condenser rubber air seals are properly fastened to their original positions. These are used at the top, bottom and sides of the radiator and A/C condenser. To prevent overheating, these seals must be installed to their original positions.

  1. Guide the two radiator alignment dowels into the rubber grommets located in lower radiator cross member. Install and tighten the six mounting bolts to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm) torque.
  2.  
  3. Close radiator drain cock.
  4.  
  5. 2.4L ONLY - Install the electric cooling fan.
  6.  
  7. Position fan shroud and power steering reservoir tank (if equipped). Install and tighten four mounting bolts to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm) torque.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, remove plugs and connect automatic transmission fluid cooler lines and constant tension clamps
    CAUTION
    The tangs on the hose clamps must be positioned straight down.

  10.  
  11. Connect radiator hoses and install hose clamps.
  12.  
  13. Position and install the condenser lower seal .
  14.  
  15. Connect battery negative cable.
  16.  
  17. Fill cooling system with correct coolant.
  18.  
  19. Connect coolant recovery bottle hose.
  20.  
  21. Install radiator cap.
  22.  
  23. Check and adjust automatic transmission fluid level (if equipped).
  24.  
  25. Start engine and check for leaks
  26.  

2.4L Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at battery.
  2.  
  3. Drain coolant from radiator.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front grill.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cooling fan from the engine, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two radiator mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the connector for the electric fan.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the power steering cooler line from cooler.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the radiator upper and lower hoses.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the overflow hose from radiator.
  18.  
  19. The lower part of radiator is equipped with two alignment dowel pins . They are located on the bottom of radiator tank and fit into rubber grommets. These rubber grommets are pressed into the radiator lower cross member.
    WARNING
    The air conditioning system (if equipped) is under a constant pressure even with the engine off.


    NOTE
    The radiator and radiator cooling fan can be removed as an assembly. It is not necessary to remove the cooling fan before removing or installing the radiator.

  21. Gently lift up and remove radiator from vehicle. Be careful not to scrape the radiator fins against any other component. Also be careful not to disturb the air conditioning condenser (if equipped).
  22.  

To install:

  1. Gently lower the radiator and fan shroud into the vehicle. Guide the two radiator alignment dowels into the rubber grommets located in lower radiator cross member.
  2.  
  3. Connect the radiator upper and lower hoses and hose clamps to radiator.
    CAUTION
    The tangs on the hose clamps must be positioned straight down.

  4.  
  5. Install coolant reserve/overflow tank hose at radiator.
  6.  
  7. Install both radiator mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Reconnect the electric cooling fan.
  10.  
  11. Install the grill.
  12.  
  13. Reinstall the cooling fan to the engine.
  14.  
  15. Rotate the fan blades (by hand) and check for interference at fan shroud.
  16.  
  17. Refill cooling system.
  18.  
  19. Connect battery cable at battery.
  20.  
  21. Start and warm engine. Check for leaks.
  22.  

2.8L Diesel & 3.7L Engines



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at battery.
  2.  
  3. Drain coolant from radiator.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front grill.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cooling fan from the engine, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two radiator mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the connector for the electric fan.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the power steering cooler line from cooler.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the radiator upper and lower hoses.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the overflow hose from radiator.
  18.  
  19. The lower part of radiator is equipped with two alignment dowel pins. They are located on the bottom of radiator tank and fit into rubber grommets. These rubber grommets are pressed into the radiator lower cross member.
