Bleeding the ABS System

Caliper




NOTE
It is not necessary to bleed the entire brake system. It is possible to bleed only the opened part of the system.

  1. Connect one end of a clear flexible hose to the caliper screw. Submerge the other end in a container partially filled with the specified brake fluid.
  2.  
  3. Have an assistant pump and then hold firm pressure on the brake pedal.
  4.  
  5. Open the caliper bleeder screw until brake fluid flows into the container.
  6.  
  7. When fluid stops flowing, close the bleeder screw.
  8.  
  9. Repeat previous three steps until there are no air bubbles in the brake fluid.
  10.  

Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)




NOTE
This procedure is required only when a new hydraulic control unit is installed.

  1. Connect scan tool New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester 418-F052, or equivalent and follow the ABS system bleed instructions.
  2.  
  3. Use the Brake Caliper bleeding procedure in this section to bleed the system. Begin at the right rear caliper.

This procedure is required only when a new hydraulic control unit is installed.

  1. Connect scan tool and follow the ABS system bleed instructions.
  2.  
  3. Use the -Brake Caliper Bleeding- procedure in this section to bleed the system. Begin at the right rear caliper.
