    Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

    Removal & Installation



    1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
    2.  
    3. Remove and discard the 2 stabilizer bar nuts.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 stabilizer bar links.
      NOTE
      Inspect and clean the mating surfaces and the internal threads. Make sure all mating surfaces are free of foreign material and remove any thread locking compound from the internal threads.

    6.  
    7. Remove and discard the 4 stabilizer bar-to-frame bolts.
    8.  
    9. Remove the stabilizer bar.
    10.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse the removal procedure.
    2.  
    3. Always install new stabilizer bar-to-frame bolts.
    4.  
    5. See the accompanying illustration for relevant torque values.

    3. Remove and discard the 2 stabilizer bar nut and grommets.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 stabilizer bar studs.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 2 stabilizer bar links.
      NOTE
      Inspect and clean the mating surfaces and the internal threads. Make sure all mating surfaces are free of foreign material and remove any thread locking compound from the internal threads.

    8.  
    9. Remove and discard the 4 stabilizer bar-to-frame bolts.
    10.  
    11. Remove the 2 stabilizer bar brackets.
    12.  
    13. Remove the stabilizer bar.
      NOTE
      Inspect the bushings for wear or damage. Install new bushings as necessary.

    14.  
    15. Remove the 2 stabilizer bar bushings.
    16.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure
    2.  
    3. Always install new stabilizer bar-to-frame bolts and stabilizer bar nut and grommets.

    3. Raise and support the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Remove the two nuts and the two stabilizer bar links.
    6.  
    7. Remove the four bolts on the front stabilizer bar brackets and bushings.
    8.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure
    2.  
    3. Observe the following tightening torques:

      Link nuts 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
       
      Bracket bolts 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).

    3. Remove and discard the 2 stabilizer bar nuts.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 stabilizer bar links.
      NOTE
      Inspect and clean the mating surfaces and the internal threads. Make sure all mating surfaces are free of foreign material and remove any thread locking compound from the internal threads.

    7. Remove and discard the 4 stabilizer bar-to-frame bolts.
    8.  
    9. Remove the stabilizer bar.

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse the removal procedure.

    3. Always install new stabilizer bar-to-frame bolts.

    5. See the accompanying illustration for relevant torque values.

    15. Remove the 2 stabilizer bar bushings.

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure
    2.  
    3. Always install new stabilizer bar-to-frame bolts and stabilizer bar nut and grommets.
    4.  
    5. Tighten the stabilizer bar bracket bolts to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm), with the vehicle at curb weight.

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the -Precautions- section.

    3. Raise and support the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Remove the two nuts and the two stabilizer bar links.
    6.  
    7. Remove the four bolts on the front stabilizer bar brackets and bushings.
    8.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure
    2.  
    3. Observe the following tightening specifications:

      Link nuts 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
       
      Bracket bolts 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
