    Exhaust Backpressure Sensor

    Operation

The exhaust back pressure (EBP) sensor is a variable capacitance sensor that when supplied with a 5-volt reference signal from the PCM, produces a linear analog voltage signal that indicates exhaust back pressure. The EBP sensor is the input to the PCM used to control the exhaust back pressure regulator.

Measures analog output indicating exhaust back pressure. PCM uses information to control back pressure under cold conditions.

    CAUTION
Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position prior to working on the electronic engine controls.

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    2.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
    4.
    5. Disconnect the exhaust pressure (EP) sensor electrical connector.
      NOTE
Support the EP sensor tube flange nut when removing the EP sensor.

    6.
    7. Remove the EP sensor.
    8.
    9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    2.
    3. With the key OFF , disconnect the EP sensor.
    4.
    5. Install the ICP/EBC Adapter Cable D94T-50-A or equivalent between the EP sensor and the vehicle harness.
    6.
    7. Start the engine and measure the voltage between the EP signal circuit and ground on the ICP/EBC Adapter Cable D94T-50-A.
    8.
    9. Accelerate the engine to wide open throttle (WOT) several times. The voltage should be above 1.35 VDC during acceleration.
