Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Battery
     
    Alternator drive belt
     
    Drain engine oil
     

  4.  


CAUTION
Cover the alternator to prevent oil from dripping on it.

  1. Remove the impact (crush) tube as follows:
    1. Remove the bumper and bumper carrier.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt securing the impact tube to the front end module.
    4.  
    5. Remove the impact tube.
    6.

  3. Slacken retainers from modular front end (MFE) and push MFE outward and restrain with special tools 11-8-401/2.
  4.  
  5. Detach the A/C compressor connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the compressor and lower out of the way. Secure it to MFE.
  8.  
  9. Unclip high-pressure A/C hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Lower engine stabilizer bar
     
    Bracket from oil pan
     
    2 forward transaxle-to-oil pan bolts and upper bolts (1)
     

  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan bolts in the specified sequence.
  14.

To install:

  1. Ensure mating surfaces are clean.
  2.  
  3. Install a new gasket and position the oil pan in place.
  4.  
  5. Install and tighten the oil pan bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install and tighten oil pan-to-transaxle bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  8.  


NOTE
Shorter bolts go in lower locations.

  1. Install the lower stabilizer-to-oil pan holder and torque bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the lower engine stabilizer bar to oil pan and torque the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the A/C compressor and torque the mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the A/C compressor connector.
  8.  
  9. Restore the MFE to normal position. Torque the bolts as follows:

    M8x30 bolts: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    m6x16 bolts: 3 ft. lbs. (5 Nm)
     

  10.  
  11. Install the impact tube and torque the bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the bumper and bumper carrier. Torque nuts and bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install or connect the following:

    Splash guard
     
    Alternator drive belt
     
    Battery
     

  16.  
  17. Refill the engine oil. Start the engine and wait until the oil indicator lamp goes out. Switch the engine off and wait about 5 minutes, then recheck the oil level.
  18.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    CAUTION
    Cover the alternator to prevent oil from dripping on it.



    Battery
     
    Alternator drive belt
     
    Drain engine oil
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the impact (crush) tube as follows:
    1. Remove the bumper and bumper carrier.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt securing the impact tube to the front end module.
    4.  
    5. Remove the impact tube.

  9. Detach the A/C compressor connector.

  11. Remove the compressor and lower out of the way. Secure it to MFE.
  12.  
  13. Unclip high-pressure A/C hose.
  14.  
  15. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Lower engine stabilizer bar
     
    Bracket from oil pan
     
    2 forward transaxle-to-oil pan bolts and upper bolts (1)

  17. Remove the oil pan bolts in the specified sequence.

To install:

  1. Ensure mating surfaces are clean.

  3. Install a new gasket and position the oil pan in place.
  4.  
  5. Install and tighten the oil pan bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install and tighten oil pan-to-transaxle bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
    NOTE
    Shorter bolts go in lower locations.

  8.  
  9. Install the lower stabilizer-to-oil pan holder and torque bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the lower engine stabilizer bar to oil pan and torque the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the A/C compressor and torque the mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Reconnect the A/C compressor connector.
  16.  
  17. Restore the MFE to normal position. Torque the bolts as follows:

    M8x30 bolts: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
     
    m6x16 bolts: 3 ft. lbs. (5 Nm)
     

  18.  
  19. Install the impact tube and torque the bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Install the bumper and bumper carrier. Torque nuts and bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install or connect the following:

    Splash guard
     
    Alternator drive belt
     
    Battery
     

  24.  
  25. Refill the engine oil. Start the engine and wait until the oil indicator lamp goes out. Switch the engine off and wait about 5 minutes, then recheck the oil level.
