Brake Pads

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the retaining spring from the top and then from the bottom.
  6.  
  7. Remove the plastic plugs from the inside of the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper guide pin bolts and remove the caliper from the rotor.
  10.  
  11. Use special tools, 34-6-301, 34-6-306/7/8, force piston back into caliper, as shown.
  12.  
  13. Remove the disk pads.

To install:

  1. Check condition of dust sleeve on piston; replace if needed.
  2.  
  3. Clean all contact surfaces.
  4.  
  5. Apply anti-squeak compound to all mounting surfaces.
  6.  
  7. Install the new disk pads evenly in their mounted positions.
  8.  
  9. Clean caliper guide pin bolts; do not apply grease.
  10.  
  11. Install calipers and guide pin bolts. Torque bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the plastic plugs.
  14.  
  15. Install the retaining spring at the bottom and then at the top.
  16.  
  17. Install rear wheels.
  18.  
  19. Fully depress brake pedal several times to set proper contact of pads with rotor.
  20.  
  21. Bleed brake system, if necessary.
  22.
