Cooper Coupe



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Remove the alternator drive belt and alternator.
  8.  
  9. Drain the cooling system. Drain plug is located on exhaust side of block, next to cylinder number 2.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower modular front end (MFE) as follows:
    1. Discharge the A/C system.
    2.  
    3. Remove the engine compartment under tray.
    4.  
    5. Remove the front bumper assembly.
    6.  
    7. Remove both front wheel well liners.
    8.  
    9. Remove or disconnect the following:
    10.  



    Cooling fan connectors
     
    A/C pipe from condenser (plug openings)
     
    A/C pipe from A/C hose (plug openings)
     
    ABS speed sensor connector from clip (both sides)
     
    Front fog lamp connector (both sides)
     
    Horn connector (both sides)
     
    Feed harness through MFE into wheel housing (both sides)
     
    Subframe crash tube bolts (both sides)
     
    Upper radiator hose
     
    Nuts securing MFE and bumper carrier assembly
     
    MFE

  13. Insert bracing tools, 11-8-401/2, to provide access room.
  14.  
  15. Detach the hoses from the water pump.
  16.  
  17. Remove the bolts and remove the water pump.
  18.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Water pump mounting bolts; torque to (30 Nm)
     
    Hoses to water pump
     
    Impact tubes; torque bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm)
     
    MFE
     
    Alternator
     
    Battery

  3. Refill the cooling system. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.

  3. Disconnect the battery.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Remove the alternator drive belt and alternator.
  8.  
  9. Drain the cooling system. Drain plug is located on exhaust side of block, next to cylinder number 2.

  3. Refill the cooling system. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Cooper S Coupe



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the supercharger
  8.  
  9. Remove the water pump bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump.
  12.

To install:

  1. Clean and remove any residual debris or material from the mounting surfaces for the water pump.
  2.  
  3. Align the water pump drive with the supercharger drive.
  4.  
  5. Install the water pump to the supercharger. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install a new sealing ring to the water pump and lubricate the seal.
  8.  
  9. Install the supercharger.
  10.  
  11. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair as necessary.

  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.

  8.  
  9. Remove the water pump bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump.

To install:

  1. Clean and remove any residual debris or material from the mounting surfaces for the water pump.
  2.  
  3. Align the water pump drive with the supercharger drive.
  4.  
  5. Install the water pump to the supercharger. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install a new sealing ring to the water pump and lubricate the seal.
  8.  
  9. Install the supercharger.
  10.  
  11. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair as necessary.
