The 7X crankshaft position sensor provides a signal used by the ignition control module. The 24X Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor is used to improve idle spark control at engine speeds up to approximately 1600 RPM. The camshaft position (CMP) sensor is also a magneto resistive sensor, with the same type of circuits as the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. The CMP sensor signal is a digital ON/OFF pulse, output once per revolution of the camshaft. The CMP sensor information is used by the PCM to determine the position of the valve train relative to the crankshaft position.
