Trouble Code: P0131



HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Circuit Low Input

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in the exhaust system, intake manifold, vacuum lines
 
Engine misfire condition present (look for P0300 series codes)
 
Fuel system too lean (possible low fuel pressure, water in fuel)
 
HO2S signal circuit is shorted to the sensor or chassis ground
 
HO2S is damaged (i.e., cracked) or air reference hole clogged
 
MAP sensor is skewed indicating a false high vacuum condition - disconnect MAP sensor and check the HO2S for a lean signal
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0132



HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Circuit High Input

Possible Causes:



Fuel system is too rich (fuel pressure too high, fuel pressure regulator leaking, or one or more fuel injectors sticking/leaking)
 
HO2S element is silicon, water or fuel contaminated
 
HO2S signal circuit is shorted to system power (B+)
 
HO2S signal tracking (water intrusion) in the connector causing a short between the HO2S signal and heater power circuits
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0133



HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Insufficient Activity

Possible Causes:



HO2S heater is damaged or has failed
 
HO2S signal or ground circuit has a high resistance condition
 
HO2S signal circuit is open or shorted to system power (B+)
 
HO2S has failed (i.e., it is silicon, water or fuel contaminated)
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0137



HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Circuit Low Input

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in the exhaust system, intake manifold, vacuum lines
 
Engine misfire condition present (look for P0300 series codes)
 
Fuel system too lean (possible low fuel pressure, water in fuel)
 
HO2S signal circuit is shorted to the sensor or chassis ground

Fuel System Lean (Bank 1)

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in intake manifold, exhaust pipes or exhaust manifold
 
Fuel control sensor is out of calibration (ECT, IAT or MAP)
 
Low fuel pressure (fuel filter clogged, pressure regulator failure)
 
One or more injectors restricted or pressure regulator has failed
 
HO2S element is contaminated, deteriorated or has failed
 
Vacuum hose is disconnected, broken, leaking or loose
 

Trouble Code: P0172



Fuel System Rich (Bank 1)

Possible Causes:



Base engine "mechanical" fault affecting one or more cylinders
 
EVAP system component has failed or canister fuel saturated
 
Fuel control sensor is out of calibration (i.e., ECT, IAT or MAP)
 
Fuel system supplying too much fuel at idle speed or at cruise
 
Fuel injector(s) is leaking or stuck partially open (one or more)
 
HO2S is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0218



Transmission Fluid Over-Temperature (4T40-E, 4T45-E)

Possible Causes:



ATF is low, contaminated, burnt or dirty
 
Engine cooling system has an airflow restriction
 
Transmission cooling system has an airflow restriction
 
Transmission cooler lines are bent, damaged or restricted
 
Transmission internal failure (i.e., low line pressure, TCC fault)
 

Trouble Code: P0336



Crankshaft Position Sensor Range/Performance

Possible Causes:



CKP sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
CKP sensor VREF circuit is open between the sensor and PCM
 
CKP sensor ground (Low Reference) circuit is open
 
CKP sensor is damaged or it failed (check crankshaft reluctor)
 
Check for CKP sensor wiring routed to close to the plug wires
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0420



Catalyst System Low Efficiency

Possible Causes:



Air leaks at the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust pipes
 
Base engine problems (i.e., high engine oil or coolant usage)
 
Catalytic converter is damaged, contaminated or has failed
 
Continuous engine misfire conditions, or weak or low coil output
 
Front HO2S or rear HO2S is contaminated with fuel or moisture
 
Rear HO2S is loose in the mounting hole (check it for a leak)
 
Front HO2S older (aged) than the rear HO2S (HO2S-12 is lazy)
 

Trouble Code: P0601



Control Module ROM Malfunction

Possible Causes:



The PCM must be replaced to correct this problem. A new PCM must be programmed with the correct software/calibration.
 
TSB 67-65-23 contains a repair procedure for this code
 

Trouble Code: P0602



Control Module Not Programmed

Possible Causes:



Reprogram the PCM with the correct software and calibration. If this step does not correct the problem, the PCM must be replaced and programmed with the correct software/calibration.

Control Module Long Term Memory Reset

Possible Causes:



An interruption to the PCM main power and/or ground circuits
 
Check the PCM power and ground circuits and make repairs as necessary. Clear the codes and recheck. If it resets, the PCM must be replaced and programmed with the correct software.

Control Module Random Access Memory Failure

Possible Causes:



The PCM must be replaced to correct this problem. A new PCM must be programmed with the correct software/calibration.

CKP Sensor System Variation Not Learned

Possible Causes:



Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels for safety.
 
Verify the hood is closed.
 
Read the trouble codes. If a code is set, refer to that code.
 
Start the engine. Allow engine temperature to reach at least 158ºF (70ºC). Then key off.
 
Select Crankshaft Position Variation Learn procedure on Scan Tool & start the vehicle.
 
Apply the brake pedal firmly and verify the selector is in Park.
 
Increase accelerator pedal position until fuel cutoff is reached at the test rpm (e.g., 5150). Quickly release the accelerator pedal after fuel cutoff is reached. The CKP system variation compensating values are learned when the engine speed (rpm) decreases back to idle speed and the procedure terminates.
 
Read the trouble codes and recheck for DTC P1336.
 
If DTC P1336 runs and passes, the CKP system variation "learn" procedure is complete. If not, look for other codes. If no codes are set, repeat the test procedure.
 

Trouble Code: U1000



Class 2 Communication Malfunction

Possible Causes:



Class 2 circuit is open, shorted to ground or shorted to power
 
PCM ignition power circuit(s) has a high resistance condition
 
PCM main ground circuit(s) has a high resistance condition
 
SDM (module) could be shorted pulling the voltage low
 

Trouble Code: U1016



No Communication With Powertrain Control Module

Possible Causes:



PCM Class 2 circuit is open, shorted to ground or to B+
 
PCM ignition power circuit(s) has a high resistance condition
 
PCM main ground circuit(s) has a high resistance condition
 
PCM (module) may have failed and is pulling the circuit low
