Ignition Coil Module



2.2L Engines
  1. Turn the ignition OFF .
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the Electronic Ignition (EI) module harness connector.

  5. Remove the EI module attachment screws and the EI module.
  6.  

To install:


NOTE
Make sure the interconnect is lined up and the interconnect seal is in place before installing the attachment screws.

  1. Install the EI module and the attachment screws, and tighten the EI module screws to 13 lb inches (1.5 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the module harness connector. Push in the connector until a click is heard, then pull back to confirm a positive engagement.
  4.  

3.1L Engine
  1. Disconnect all the electrical connectors at the ignition control module.

  3. Note position of spark plug wires for installation and disconnect the spark plug wires from ignition coils.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws securing coil assemblies to ignition control module.
  6.  
  7. Remove the coils from ignition control module.
  8.  
  9. Remove the ignition control module from the bracket.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the ignition control module on the bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the coils to ignition control module.
    NOTE
    Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the screws, and tighten the screws to 40 lb inches (4.5 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the spark plug wires as noted during removal.
  8.  
  9. Connect the electrical connectors to the ignition control module.
  10.  

3.5L Engine
  1. Note the position of the spark plug wires for the installation and disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil and module assembly.

  3. Remove the four screws securing the ignition coil and module assembly to the bracket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ignition coil and module assembly.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the ignition coil and module assembly to the bracket.
    NOTE
    Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.
