Disassembly & Assembly



  1. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the strut in the special tool J 45400.
    NOTE
    The spring is compressed when the strut moves freely.

  4.  
  5. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.
  6.  
  7. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use the special tool J 42991 to remove the upper strut mount nut
  8.  
  9. Remove the strut from the special tool J 45400 .
  10.  
  11. Loosen the compressor forcing screw until the upper strut mount and coil spring may be removed.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper strut mount and the coil spring from the special tool J 45400 .
  14.  

To Assemble:

  1. Install the coil spring and upper strut mount to the special tool J 45400.
  2.  
  3. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw (1) until the coil spring is compressed.
  4.  
  5. Install the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount.
  6.  
  7. Loosely install the strut retaining nut. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use the special tool J 42991 to install the upper strut mount nut and tighten the strut mount nut to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Remove the strut from the special tool J 45400.
  10.  
  11. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  12.  

  1. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the strut in the special tool J 45400.
    NOTE
    The spring is compressed when the strut moves freely.

  7. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use the special tool J 42991 to remove the upper strut mount nut

  9. Remove the strut from the special tool J 45400 .

  11. Loosen the compressor forcing screw until the upper strut mount and coil spring may be removed.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper strut mount and the coil spring from the special tool J 45400 .
  14.  

To Assemble:

  1. Install the coil spring and upper strut mount to the special tool J 45400.
  2.  
  3. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw (1) until the coil spring is compressed.
  4.  
  5. Install the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount.
  6.  
  7. Loosely install the strut retaining nut. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use the special tool J 42991 to install the upper strut mount nut and tighten the strut mount nut to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Remove the strut from the special tool J 45400.
  10.  
  11. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  12.  

  1. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the strut in the special tool J 45400.
    NOTE
    The spring is compressed when the strut moves freely.

  4.  
  5. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.

To Assemble:

  1. Install the coil spring and upper strut mount to the special tool J 45400.
  2.  
  3. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.
  4.  
  5. Install the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount.
  6.  
  7. Loosely install the strut retaining nut.
  8.  
  9. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use the special tool J 42991 to install the upper strut mount nut and tighten the strut mount nut to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Remove the strut from the special tool J 45400.
  12.  
  13. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  14.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Support the front crossmember.
  4.  
  5. Matchmark the front strut-to-steering knuckle location.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Brake line bracket from the strut
     
    Strut lower mounting bracket nut and through-bolts
     
    Upper strut-to-chassis nuts
     
    Strut

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Strut and finger-tighten the upper strut-to-chassis nuts
     
    Strut to the steering knuckle. Torque the through-bolts/nuts to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm) with the reference marks aligned.
     
    Brake line bracket to the strut. Torque the bolt to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
     
    Wheel
     

  2.  
  3. Torque the upper strut fasteners to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Check and/or adjust the front end alignment.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Stabilizer link from the strut
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle nuts
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle bolts
     
    Upper strut-to-chassis nuts
     
    Strut
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Position the strut in the strut tower, using the alignment pin as a guide.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Upper strut-to-chassis nuts. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle bolts, leaving the nuts off
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle nuts and tighten to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm)
     
    Stabilizer link. Tighten to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm)
     
    Front wheel
     

  4.  
  5. Check and/or adjust the front end alignment.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Stabilizer link from the strut
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle nuts
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle bolts
     
    Upper strut-to-chassis nuts
     
    Strut

  4.  

To install:

  1. Position the strut in the strut tower, using the alignment pin as a guide.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Upper strut-to-chassis nuts. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle bolts, leaving the nuts off
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Strut-to-steering knuckle nuts and tighten to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm)
     
    Stabilizer link. Tighten to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm)
     
    Front wheel
     

  4.  
  5. Check and/or adjust the front end alignment.
