2.2L Engine



  1. Drain the coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left headlamp.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right headlamp.
  6.  
  7. Loop a rope around each of the 2 tabs of the condenser and tie the rope around the upper tie bar.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper radiator support bracket bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper radiator support brackets.
  12.  
  13. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  14.  
  15. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
  16.  
  17. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.

  19. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  20.  
  21. Raise the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Remove the lower radiator air deflector retainers.
  24.  
  25. Remove the lower radiator air deflector.
  26.  
  27. Remove the right front fender liner.
  28.  
  29. Remove the right radiator air deflector retainers.
  30.  
  31. Remove the right radiator air deflector.
  32.  
  33. Remove the left radiator air deflector retainers.
  34.  
  35. Remove the left radiator air deflector.
  36.  
  37. Place a drain pan under the transmission oil cooler pipes.
  38.  
  39. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipes attachment nut from the transmission.
  40.  
  41. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipes from the transmission.

  44.  
  45. Remove the lower radiator support brackets.
  46.  
  47. Remove the radiator lower mounts.
  48.  
  49. Remove and discard the condenser mounting bolts.
  50.  
  51. Push upward on the radiator and downward on the condenser to unsnap the condenser mounting tabs from the radiator clips.
  52.  
  53. Remove and discard the condenser mounting nuts from the radiator.

  56.  
  57. Remove the radiator, cooling fan shroud and transmission oil cooler pipe assembly.

  59. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipes from the radiator.
  60.  
  61. Pry upward on the fan shroud tabs at the radiator clips.
  62.  
  63. Remove the cooling fan and shroud assembly from the radiator.
  64.  

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan and shroud assembly to the radiator.
  2.  
  3. Snap the fan shroud tabs into the radiator clips.
  4.  
  5. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Install the radiator, cooling fan shroud and transmission oil cooler pipe assembly.
  8.  
  9. Install the radiator air side seals onto the condenser mounting tabs on the radiator.
    NOTE
    The bolt retaining the condenser to the radiator end tank is a special length and should be the only bolt used upon reinstallation. The use of a longer bolt will damage the radiator end tank.


    NOTE
    Replace the condenser mounting bolts and nuts.

  10.  
  11. Install the condenser mounting nuts to the radiator.
  12.  
  13. Insert the condenser mounting tabs into the radiator clips.
  14.  
  15. Install the condenser mounting bolts, and tighten the bolts to 53 lb inches (6 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Bend the radiator air side seals and insert the seals into the channel of the intake air splash shields.
  18.  
  19. The radiator air side seals must be in the proper position for proper air flow.
    NOTE
    Replace the radiator lower mounts as a pair or vibration may result.

  20.  
  21. Install the radiator lower mounts.
  22.  
  23. Install the lower radiator support brackets.
  24.  
  25. Install the lower radiator support bracket bolts, and tighten the bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the transmission.
  28.  
  29. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes attachment nut to the transmission, and tighten the nut to 62 lb inches (7 Nm).
    NOTE
    Radiator air deflectors must be properly installed or reduced A/C and engine cooling system performance could occur.

  31. Install the left radiator air deflector.
  32.  
  33. Install the left radiator air deflector retainers.
  34.  
  35. Install the right radiator air deflector.
  36.  
  37. Install the right radiator air deflector retainers.
  38.  
  39. Install the right front fender liner.
  40.  
  41. Install the lower radiator air deflector.
  42.  
  43. Install the lower radiator air deflector retainers.
  44.  
  45. Lower the vehicle.
  46.  
  47. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  48.  
  49. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  50.  
  51. Install the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  52.  
  53. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  54.  
  55. Remove the rope attached to the condenser and upper tie bar.
  56.  
  57. Install the upper radiator support brackets.
    NOTE
    Do not allow the upper bracket to twist when tightening the screw or vibration may result.

  58.  
  59. Install the upper radiator support bracket bolts, and tighten the bolts to 89 lb inches (10 Nm).
  60.  
  61. Install the right headlamp.
  62.  
  63. Install the left headlamp.
  64.  
  65. Fill the coolant.
  66.  
  67. Inspect the transmission fluid level.
  68.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left headlamp.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right headlamp.
  8.  
  9. Loop a rope around each of the 2 tabs of the condenser and tie the rope around the upper tie bar.

  11. Remove the upper radiator support bracket bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper radiator support brackets.
  14.  
  15. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  16.  
  17. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.

  21. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.

  23. Raise the vehicle.
  24.  
  25. Remove the lower radiator air deflector retainers.

  29. Remove the right front fender liner.
  30.  
  31. Remove the right radiator air deflector retainers.
  32.  
  33. Remove the right radiator air deflector.
  34.  
  35. Remove the left radiator air deflector retainers.

  38.  
  39. Place a drain pan under the transmission oil cooler pipes.
  40.  
  41. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipes attachment nut from the transmission.
  42.  
  43. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipes from the transmission.

  53. Push upward on the radiator and downward on the condenser to unsnap the condenser mounting tabs from the radiator clips.

  55. Remove and discard the condenser mounting nuts from the radiator.

  61. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipes from the radiator.

  63. Pry upward on the fan shroud tabs at the radiator clips.

  65. Remove the cooling fan and shroud assembly from the radiator.
  66.  

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan and shroud assembly to the radiator.
  2.  
  3. Snap the fan shroud tabs into the radiator clips.
  4.  
  5. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Install the radiator, cooling fan shroud and transmission oil cooler pipe assembly.
  8.  
  9. Install the radiator air side seals onto the condenser mounting tabs on the radiator.
    NOTE
    The bolt retaining the condenser to the radiator end tank is a special length and should be the only bolt used upon reinstallation. The use of a longer bolt will damage the radiator end tank.


    NOTE

  11. Install the condenser mounting nuts to the radiator.
  12.

  15. Install the condenser mounting bolts, and tighten the bolts to 53 lb inches (6 Nm).

  17. Bend the radiator air side seals and insert the seals into the channel of the intake air splash shields.

  19. The radiator air side seals must be in the proper position for proper air flow.
    NOTE
    Replace the radiator lower mounts as a pair or vibration may result.

  21. Install the radiator lower mounts.
  22.  
  23. Install the lower radiator support brackets.
  24.  
  25. Install the lower radiator support bracket bolts, and tighten the bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the transmission.
  28.  
  29. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes attachment nut to the transmission, and tighten the nut to 62 lb inches (7 Nm).
    NOTE
    Radiator air deflectors must be properly installed or reduced A/C and engine cooling system performance could occur.

  31. Install the left radiator air deflector.
  32.  
  33. Install the left radiator air deflector retainers.
  34.  
  35. Install the right radiator air deflector.
  36.  
  37. Install the right radiator air deflector retainers.
  38.  
  39. Install the right front fender liner.
  40.  
  41. Install the lower radiator air deflector.
  42.  
  43. Install the lower radiator air deflector retainers.
  44.  
  45. Lower the vehicle.
  46.  
  47. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  48.  
  49. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  50.  
  51. Install the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  52.  
  53. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  54.  
  55. Remove the rope attached to the condenser and upper tie bar.
  56.  
  57. Install the upper radiator support brackets.
    NOTE
    Do not allow the upper bracket to twist when tightening the screw or vibration may result.

  58.  
  59. Install the upper radiator support bracket bolts, and tighten the bolts to 89 lb inches (10 Nm).
  60.  
  61. Install the right headlamp.
  62.  
  63. Install the left headlamp.
  64.  
  65. Fill the coolant.
  66.  
  67. Inspect the transmission fluid level.
  68.  

3.1L Engine



  1. Remove the battery.
  2.  
  3. Remove the battery tray.
  4.  
  5. Recover the A/C system.
  6.  
  7. Drain the cooling system.
  8.  
  9. Use the special tool J38185 in order to reposition the upper radiator hose clamp.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper radiator hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper transaxle cooler line.
  14.  
  15. Use the special tool J38185 in order to reposition the surge tank hose clamp from the surge tank.
  16.  
  17. Remove the coolant surge tank hose.
  18.  
  19. Remove the condenser inlet fitting from the discharge hose.
  20.  
  21. Remove and discard the sealing washer.
    NOTE
    Cap or tape off the open A/C hose to prevent system contamination.

  22.  
  23. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector.
  24.  
  25. Raise the vehicle.
  26.  
  27. Remove the lower closeout panel.
  28.  
  29. Use the special tool J38185 in order to reposition the lower radiator hose clamp from the radiator.
  30.  
  31. Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
  32.  
  33. Remove the lower transaxle cooler line.
  34.  
  35. Remove the evaporator line from the condenser outlet.

  39. Remove the radiator, fan and condenser as an assembly from the vehicle.
  40.  
  41. Remove the condenser from the radiator.
  42.  
  43. Remove the fan shroud from the radiator.
  44.  

To install:

  1. Install the fan shroud to the radiator.
    NOTE
    Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2.  
  3. Install the condenser to radiator bolts, and tighten the bolts to 44 lb inches (5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the radiator, fan, and condenser as an assembly to the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower radiator mounting panel, and tighten the bolts to 89 lb inches (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the condenser outlet to the evaporator line bolt, and tighten the bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Use the special tool J38185 in order to reposition the lower radiator hose clamp to the radiator.
  12.  
  13. Install the lower radiator hose to the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Install the lower closeout panel.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Install the cooling fan electrical connection.
  20.  
  21. Install the lower transaxle oil cooler line, and tighten the fitting to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Remove the cap or tape from the discharge hose.
  24.  
  25. Install a new sealing washer to the discharge hose.
  26.  
  27. Install the condenser inlet fitting to the discharge hose, and tighten the fitting to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  28.  
  29. Install the coolant surge tank hose.
  30.  
  31. Install the upper transaxle oil cooler line fitting, and tighten the fitting to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  32.  
  33. Install the upper radiator hose.
  34.  
  35. Use the special tool J38185 in order to reposition the upper radiator hose clamp.
  36.  
  37. Refill the cooling system.
  38.  
  39. Recharge the A/C system.
  40.  
  41. Leak test the fittings of the reinstalled components using the special tool J39400-A .
  42.  
  43. Install the battery tray.
  44.  
  45. Install the battery.
  46.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Drain the coolant.

  5. Remove the left headlamp.

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan and shroud assembly to the radiator.
  2.  
  3. Snap the fan shroud tabs into the radiator clips.

  5. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the radiator. Install the radiator, cooling fan shroud and transmission oil cooler pipe assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the radiator air side seals onto the condenser mounting tabs on the radiator.

  47. Lower the vehicle.

  49. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.

  51. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  52.  
  53. Install the surge tank outlet hose to the radiator.
  54.  
  55. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185 .
  56.  
  57. Remove the rope attached to the condenser and upper tie bar.
  58.  
  59. Install the upper radiator support brackets.
    NOTE
    Do not allow the upper bracket to twist when tightening the screw or vibration may result.

  60.  
  61. Install the upper radiator support bracket bolts, and tighten the bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  62.  
  63. Install the right headlamp.
  64.  
  65. Install the left headlamp.
  66.  
  67. Fill the coolant.
  68.  
  69. Inspect the transmission fluid level.
  70.  

3.5L Engines



  1. Drain the coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the left headlamp.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right headlamp.
  6.  
  7. Loop a rope around each of the upper 2 tabs of the condenser and tie the rope around the upper tie bar.

  23. Install the lower radiator support bracket bolts, and tighten the bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).

  25. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes to the transmission.
  26.  
  27. Install the transmission oil cooler pipes attachment nut to the transmission, and tighten the nut to 62 lb inches (7 Nm).

  29. Install the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  30.  
  31. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
    NOTE
    Radiator air deflectors must be properly installed or reduced A/C and engine cooling system performance could occur.

  33. Install the left radiator air deflector.
  34.  
  35. Install the left radiator air deflector retainers.
  36.  
  37. Install the right radiator air deflector.
  38.  
  39. Install the right radiator air deflector retainers.
  40.  
  41. Install the right front fender liner
  42.  
  43. Install the lower radiator air deflector.
  44.  
  45. Install the lower radiator air deflector retainers.
  46.  
  47. Lower the vehicle.
  48.  
  49. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  50.  
  51. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185.
  52.  
  53. Install the surge tank outlet hose to the radiator.
  54.  
  55. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the special tool J38185 .
  56.  
  57. Remove the rope attached to the condenser and upper tie bar.
  58.  
  59. Install the upper radiator support brackets.
    NOTE
    Do not allow the upper bracket to twist when tightening the screw or vibration may result.

  60.  
  61. Install the upper radiator support bracket bolts, and tighten the bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  62.  
  63. Install the right headlamp.
  64.  
  65. Install the left headlamp.
  66.  
  67. Fill the coolant.
  68.  
  69. Inspect the transmission fluid level.
