Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel. .
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable jack stand, raise the rear knuckle to remove spring tension.

  7. Remove the lower shock bolt.

  9. Remove the upper shock bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the shock from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the shock in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper shock absorber to body bolt, and tighten the bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the shock absorber to knuckle bolt, and tighten the bolt to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Remove the jack stand from the rear knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Install the tire and wheel.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel. .
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable jack stand, raise the rear knuckle to remove spring tension.

  13. Remove the shock from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Position the shock in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper shock absorber to body bolt, and tighten the bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the shock absorber to knuckle bolt, and tighten the bolt to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Remove the jack stand from the rear knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Install the tire and wheel.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  

Testing & Inspection



  1. Test drive vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Inspect each shock absorber for external fluid leakage.
  4.  
  5. Use your hands in order to lift up and push down each corner of the vehicle 3 times.
  6.  
  7. Remove your hands from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Replace any shock that exceeds more than two bounces.
