Trailing Arm

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.

  3. Remove the trailing arm-to-knuckle bolt, washer and bushing.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trailing arm to body bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the trailing arm from the body.

To Assemble:

  1. Install the trailing arm-to-knuckle bolt, washer, and bushing. Hand tighten the bolt.
    NOTE
    Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the trailing arm to the body and install the bolt.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the trailing arm to body bolt to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm) plus 120 degrees rotation.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the knuckle bolt to 51 ft. lbs. (69 ·Nm).
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel.

  5. Remove the trailing arm bracket to body bolts.

  7. Remove the trailing arm to knuckle through bolt.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the trailing arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the trailing arm from the vehicle.

  13. Remove the trailing arm to bracket bolt and nut.
  14.  
  15. Remove the trailing arm from the bracket.

To Assemble:

  1. Assemble the trailing arm and bracket, and tighten the trailing arm to bracket through bolt to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm) plus 60 degrees.
  2.  
  3. Position the trailing arm to the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the trailing arm to knuckle bolts, and tighten the bolts to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the parking brake cable to the trailing arm.
  8.  
  9. Install the trailing arm bracket to body bolts, and tighten the bracket to body bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm) plus 30 degrees plus an additional 15 degrees.
  10.  
  11. Install the tire and wheel.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel.

  9. Remove the trailing arm to knuckle through bolt.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the trailing arm.
  12.  
  13. Remove the trailing arm from the vehicle.

  15. Remove the trailing arm to bracket bolt and nut.
  16.  
  17. Remove the trailing arm from the bracket.
  18.  

To Assemble:

  1. Assemble the trailing arm and bracket, and tighten the trailing arm to bracket through bolt to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm) plus 60 degrees.
  2.  
  3. Position the trailing arm to the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the trailing arm to knuckle bolts, and tighten the bolts to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the parking brake cable to the trailing arm.
  8.  
  9. Install the trailing arm bracket to body bolts, and tighten the bracket to body bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm) plus 30 degrees plus an additional 15 degrees.
  10.  
  11. Install the tire and wheel.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
