Removal & Installation



Front Brake Hoses
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose ends and the brake pipe fitting.
  8.  
  9. Use a flare nut wrench on the brake pipe fitting and a backup wrench on the brake hose.

  11. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose.
  12.  
  13. Cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end and the brake hose end to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
  14.  
  15. Remove the brake hose retainer.
  16.  
  17. Remove the brake hose nut attaching the hose to the strut.
  18.  
  19. Remove the brake banjo bolt from the brake caliper.
  20.  
  21. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper
  22.  
  23. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets.
    NOTE
    These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.

  25. Cap or plug the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

To install:

  1. Remove the caps or plugs from the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose.
    NOTE
    Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  3. Assemble the new copper brake hose gaskets, and the brake hose bolt, to the brake hose.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake hose banjo bolt to the brake caliper. Tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the brake hose to the strut with the brake hose nut. Tighten the nut to 124 inch. lbs. (14 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Remove the caps or plugs from the brake pipe fitting end and the brake hose end.
  10.  
  11. Install the brake hose to the brake hose body bracket.
  12.  
  13. Install the brake hose retainer over the anti-rotation tabs of the brake hose.
  14.  
  15. Connect the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose.
  16.  
  17. Use a backup wrench on the brake hose.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Ensure that the hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension. Check the hose in extreme right and extreme left turn conditions. If the hose makes contact, remove the hose and correct the condition.
  22.  
  23. Bleed the hydraulic brake system.
  24.  
  25. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  26.  
  27. Lower the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Check brake fluid level.
  30.  

Rear Disc Brake Hose
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose ends and brake pipe fitting.
  8.  
  9. Use a flare nut wrench on the brake pipe fitting (1) and a backup wrench on the brake hose (3) as shown.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake hose retainer.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear brake hose banjo bolt from the brake caliper.
  14.  
  15. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
  16.  
  17. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
  18.  
  19. Cap or plug the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
    NOTE
    Install the NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  21. Remove the caps or plugs from the opening in the brake caliper and the brake hose.
  22.  
  23. Install 2 new copper gaskets, the brake hose and the brake hose banjo bolt to the brake caliper.
  24.  
  25. Tighten the brake hose banjo bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Remove the caps or plugs from the brake pipe fitting end and the brake hose end.
  28.  
  29. Install the brake hose to the brake hose body bracket.
  30.  
  31. Install the brake hose retainer over the anti-rotation tabs of the brake hose.
  32.  
  33. Connect the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose.
  34.  
  35. Use a backup wrench on the brake hose.
  36.  
  37. Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  38.  
  39. Ensure that the hose does not make contact with any part of the suspension. If the hose makes contact, remove the hose and correct the condition.
  40.  
  41. Bleed the hydraulic brake system.
  42.  
  43. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  44.  
  45. Lower the vehicle.
  46.  
  47. Check brake fluid level.
  48.
