Power Mirrors



Diagnosis & Testing

Check outside power mirror switch as follows:

  1. Ignition OFF , disconnect the harness connector at the power mirror switch of the outside rearview mirror.
  2.  
  3. Test for infinite resistance between each signal terminal and the voltage supply terminal with the switch in the open position.
  4.  
  5. If less than infinite resistance, replace the power mirror switch.
  6.  
  7. Test for less than 2 ohms of resistance between each signal terminal and the voltage supply terminal with the switch in the closed position.
  8.  
  9. If greater than 2 ohms, replace the power mirror switch.

Check the outside power mirror motor as follows:

  1. Ignition OFF , disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror.
  2.  
  3. Test for 25-95 ohms of resistance between the control terminal and the ground supply terminal of the individual left or right mirror motor.
  4.  
  5. If the resistance is not within the specified range, replace the appropriate mirror assembly.
  6.  

Removal & Installation
Glass

WARNING
Approved safety glasses and gloves should be worn when performing this procedure to reduce the chance of personal injury.

  1. Carefully push the outside rearview mirror face on the inner edge (near the front door window glass) to allow finger access.
  2.  
  3. Grasp the mirror face firmly and pull it from the mirror body.

  5. Remove the outside rearview mirror case from the outside rearview mirror housing and disconnect the heater wire (if equipped).
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 jackscrews from back of the mirror case.

    Bend the 2 jackscrews over.
     
    Press down on the side of the jackscrew popping the screw from the mirror glass case.
     
    Save the jackscrews for reinstallation to the mirror motor.

To install:


NOTE
The jackscrew springs must be positioned on the fingers (opposite the ball end) to compress the fingers.

  1. Push the jackscrews into the mirror motor.
  2.  
  3. Rotate both jackscrews to position the ball flanges to be inline with the attaching hub. They will then be correctly positioned to the mirror face.
  4.  
  5. Install the electric heater wire to the mirror, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Align the wire stabilizers (if equipped) on the mirror case to the motor. Also align the mirror case to the motor.
  8.  
  9. With the palm of your gloved hand, carefully press firmly on the center of the glass until the case seats onto the motor.
  10.  
  11. With the palm of you gloved hand carefully pivot the mirror face to engage the jackscrews. The jackscrews will give a clicking noise when properly seated.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the mirror operation and clean the glass face.
  14.  

Mirror Assembly
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front door trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trim cover.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors. 
  8.  
  9. Remove the nuts from the mirror.
  10.  
  11. Remove the mirror from the front door.

To install:

  1. Position the mirror to the front door.
  2.  
  3. Install the nuts to the mirror, starting at the lower left nut.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the mirror mounting nuts to 89 inch. lbs.(10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the electrical connectors.
  8.  
  9. Install the trim cover.
  10.  
  11. Install the front door trim panel.
  12.  

Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Release the tabs and push the switch bezel from the door trim.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the mirror switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the switch from the bezel.

To install:

  1. Install the switch to the bezel.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connectors to the mirror switch.
  4.  
  5. Install the switch bezel to the door trim.
  6.  
  7. Install the door trim panel.
