Diagnosis & Testing

System/Circuit testing is as follows:

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the sunroof switch.
  2.
  3. Test for less than 5 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal B and ground.
  4.
  5. If greater than the specified range, test the following ground circuits for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the sunroof motor/actuator.

Sunroof switch low reference circuit terminal B

Sunroof motor/actuator harness connector ground circuit terminal 1

  6.
  7. Connect a 3A fused jumper wire between the following sunroof switch signal circuits and ground. The roof should be inoperative in at least one or more directions.

Terminal C sunroof switch open signal

Terminal A sunroof switch close signal

  8.
  9. Ignition OFF , disconnect the harness connector at the sunroof control module.
  10.
  11. Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  12.
  13. If the roof moved in all directions, replace the sunroof switch.
  14.
  15. Ignition ON , verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 6 and ground.
  16.
  17. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

Sunroof switch open signal terminal C.

Sunroof switch close signal terminal A.

  18.
  19. If less than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the sunroof control module.
  20.
  21. If all circuit test normal, replace the sunroof control module.

Check the sunroof switch as follows:

  1. Ignition OFF , disconnect the harness connector sunroof switch.
  2.
  3. Test for infinite resistance between the following sunroof switch signal terminals and the low reference circuit terminal B.

Sunroof switch open signal circuit terminal C.

Sunroof switch close signal circuit terminal A.

  4.
  5. If less than the specified value, replace the sunroof switch.
  6.
  7. Test for less than 5 ohms between the sunroof switch open signal terminal D and the ground circuit terminal B with the switch in the closed position.

Sunroof switch close signal circuit terminal A.

If greater than the specified range, replace the sunroof switch.

  8.

Position Calibration
  1. Place the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2.
  3. Press and hold the sunroof switch to the OPEN position until the glass panel stalls at the rear hard stop in the fully open position, and then moves back to the soft stop position.
  4.
  5. Release the sunroof switch.
  6.
  7. Within 6 seconds, press and hold the switch button again to the OPEN position. After 3 more seconds, the sunroof window will move toward the CLOSE position. Continue holding the switch until the sunroof window stops at the closed position.
  8.
  9. Release the sunroof switch.
  10.
  11. Verify sunroof operation.
  12.

Removal & Installation
Motor

NOTE
The sunroof actuator drive shaft turns in both directions and contains no limit switches. You may replace the sunroof motor/actuator with the window panel in any position.

WARNING
Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
