Diagnosis & Testing

Perform the door lock switch test as follows:

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the applicable door lock switch.
  2.
  3. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminals C and the ground terminal A with the switch in the open position.
    1. If less than infinite resistance, replace the applicable door lock switch.
    2.

  4.
  5. Test for less than 2 ohms of resistance between the signal terminal C and the ground terminal A with the switch in the lock position.
    1. If greater than 2 ohms, replace the applicable door lock switch.
    2.

  6.
  7. Test for 1.4-1.6k ohms of resistance between the signal terminal C and the ground terminal A with the switch in the unlock position.
    1. If greater or less than the specified range, replace the applicable door lock switch.

Perform the door latch switch test as follows:

  1. Install a 15-amp fused jumper wire between the lock control terminal and 12 volts. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the unlock control terminal and ground. The appropriate Door Latch should perform the LOCK/UNLOCK function.
    1. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the appropriate Door Latch.
    2.

  2.
  3. Reverse the jumper wires. The appropriate Door Latch should perform the LOCK/UNLOCK function.
  4.
  5. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the appropriate Door Latch.
  6.

    NOTE
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8.
  9. Install the door lock screws in the proper fastener tightening sequence. First install the top screw (1), then the bottom screw (2) and lastly the middle screw (3). Tighten the screws to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm). Install a new clip to connect the outside handle rod to the door lock lever.
  10.
  11. Position the rod (1) in the clip in order to eliminate any free play in the outside door handle.
  12.
  13. Install the clip cover over the threaded rod.
