Operation

Specific to:

Nissan 350Z 2007-2008

Nissan Maxima 2007-2008

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases.

Removal & Installation

Specific to:

Nissan 350Z 2007-2008

Nissan Maxima 2007-2008

See Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.

Specific to:

Nissan 350Z 2007-2008

Nissan Maxima 2007-2008

  1. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness connector.
  2.
  3. Remove the ECT.
  4.

To install:

  1. Installation is reverse of removal.
  2.

Testing

Specific to:

Nissan 350Z 2007-2008

Nissan Maxima 2007-2008

NOTE
Clear Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if applicable.

  1. Inspect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connector connection, check terminal for poor connections, loose wires, bent, broken or corroded pins, and then verify that the connector is always securely fastened.
  2.
  3. Remove the ECT from the engine.
  4.
  5. With the sensing portion of the sensor immersed in hot water, check the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 using an ohmmeter at the following temperatures.
  6.
  7. Engine coolant temperature 68°F, resistance 2.1 to 2.9 KOhms.
  8.
  9. Engine coolant temperature 122°F, resistance 0.68 to 1.00 KOhms.
  10.
  11. Engine coolant temperature 194°F, resistance 0.236 to 0.260 KOhms.
  12.
  13. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  14.
