  1. Adjust the rear brake shoes.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the screw(s) and remove the brake lever covers or console.
  4.

  1. Adjust the front cable with the nut or screw located at the rear of the parking brake handle. Use the following list to determine how many notches are required to engage the parking brake.

    GLC rear wheel drive: 3-7
     
    GLC front wheel drive: 5-9
     
    323 1986: rear disc 9-15; rear drum 7-11
     
    323 1987: 7-11
     
    323 1988: 5-7
     
    323 1989: rear disc 5-7; rear drum 6-8
     
    626 1979-82: 5-7
     
    626 1983-87: 7-9
     
    626/MX-6 1988-89: 5-7
     
    929: 6-8
     
    RX-7 1979-83: 3-7
     
    RX-7 1984-85: 6-8
     
    RX-7 1986-89: 4-5
     

  2.  

  1. Operate the parking brake several times; check to see that the rear wheels do not drag when it is fully released. Also, make sure that the brake warning light illuminates when the lever is pulled up one notch, but goes out when it is fully released.

  3. Install the brake lever covers or console.
