    Removal & Installation

    1. Remove the battery cover.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the ECT sensor.
    10.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
    2.  

    1. Remove the battery cover.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the ECT sensor.
    10.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
    2.  

    1. Remove the battery cover.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the ECT sensor.
    10.  

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    1. Remove the battery cover.

    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    5. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.

    7. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.

    9. Remove the ECT sensor and gasket.

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the sensor to 12-17 ft. lbs. (16-23 Nm).

    1. Remove the battery cover.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Remove the plug hole plate by lifting off and removing the plug hole plate from the areas shown in the accompanying illustration.

    7. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
    10.  
    11. Remove the ECT sensor.

    To install:

    1. Installation is the reverse of removal, tighten the sensor to 89-123 in. lbs. (10-14 Nm).
    2.  

    1. Partially drain the engine cooling system until the coolant level is below the ECT sensor-mounting hole.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Detach the wiring harness connector from the ECT sensor.
    6.  
    7. Using an open-end wrench, remove the coolant temperature sensor from the intake manifold or thermostat housing.
    8.  

    To install:

    1. Thread the sensor into the intake manifold, or thermostat housing, by hand, then tighten it securely.
    2.  
    3. Connect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Refill the engine cooling system.
    6.  
    7. Start the engine, check for coolant leaks and top off the cooling system.
    8.  

    1. Partially drain the engine cooling system until the coolant level is below the ECT sensor-mounting hole.

    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Detach the wiring harness connector from the ECT sensor.
    6.  
    7. Using an open-end wrench, remove the coolant temperature sensor from the intake manifold or thermostat housing.
    8.  

    To install:

    1. Thread the sensor into the intake manifold, or thermostat housing, by hand, then tighten it securely.
    2.  
    3. Connect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Refill the engine cooling system.
    6.  
    7. Start the engine, check for coolant leaks and top off the cooling system.
    8.  

    1. Partially drain the engine cooling system until the coolant level is below the ECT sensor-mounting hole.

    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Detach the wiring harness connector from the ECT sensor.
    6.  
    7. Using an open-end wrench, remove the coolant temperature sensor from the intake manifold or thermostat housing.
    8.  

    To install:

    1. Thread the sensor into the intake manifold, or thermostat housing, by hand, then tighten it securely.

    3. Connect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Refill the engine cooling system.
    6.  
    7. Start the engine, check for coolant leaks and top off the cooling system.
    8.  

    1. Partially drain the engine cooling system until the coolant level is below the ECT sensor-mounting hole.

    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.  
    5. Detach the wiring harness connector from the ECT sensor.

    7. Using an open-end wrench, remove the coolant temperature sensor from the intake manifold or thermostat housing.
