Variable Timing Control System Circuit High Input

Possible Causes:



VTCS control circuit is shorted to system power (B+)
 
VTCS solenoid valve is damaged or has failed
 
PCM is damaged
 

Trouble Code: P1608



PCM Output Device Circuit Malfunction

Possible Causes:



Output device (relay or solenoid) control circuit(s) shorted to ground between the device and the PCM
 
If none of the output device control circuits are shorted to ground (key on, voltage drop check), the PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P1631



Generator Output Signal (No Output)

Possible Causes:



Generator Terminal 'P' circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Generator Terminal 'D' circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Generator drive belt is cut or missing
 
Generator has failed (i.e., generator brushes or rectifier bridge)
 
PCM has failed

Battery Voltage Monitor Circuit Malfunction

Possible Causes:



PCM Terminal '4O' is open or shorted to ground
 
Generator drive belt is cut or missing
 
Generator is damaged or has failed (i.e., the generator brushes or rectifier bridge has failed)
 
PCM has failed

Battery Overcharge

Possible Causes:



Generator is damaged or has failed (in an overcharge mode)
 
PCM has failed

Generator Battery Terminal Open Circuit Malfunction

Possible Causes:



Generator Battery Terminal circuit is open
 
Generator is damaged or has failed (i.e., no Generator output)
 
Battery has failed (it is unable to accept a charge)
 
PCM has failed

Battery Direct To PCM Circuit Malfunction

Possible Causes:



KAM circuit is open (the problem may be intermittent)
 
KAM circuit is shorted to ground (KAM fuse is blown)
 
KAM circuit connection loose in wiring harness or at the PCM
 
PCM has failed

Clutch or Neutral Switch Circuit Malfunction

Possible Causes:



Clutch or Neutral switch signal is open or shorted to ground
 
Clutch or Neutral switch signal is shorted to system power (B+)
 
Clutch or Neutral switch is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

MAF or VAF Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Possible Causes:



MAF sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
MAF sensor power circuit is open or the ground circuit is open
 
MAF sensor is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 
TSB SSP056 (2/02) contains a MAF sensor warranty (Protégé)
 

Trouble Code: P0140



HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Circuit No Activity Detected

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in the intake manifold or exhaust manifold or pipes
 
IAT sensor or MAF sensor has deteriorated (out of calibration)
 
HO2S signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
HO2S contaminated with wrong fuel, has deteriorated or failed
 
TSB 0100700 (3/00) contains information for this code ()
 

Trouble Code: P1000



OBD II Monitor Testing No Completed

Possible Causes:



A PCM Reset step was performed with an OBD II Scan Tool
 
Battery keep alive power (KAPWR) was removed to the PCM
