Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the intake manifold bracket on 2.0L (FS) engines.
  2.
  3. Unplug the connector and remove the oil pressure switch.
  4.

To install:

  1. Apply silicone sealant to the oil pressure switch threads.
  2.
  3. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the switch to 9-13 ft. lbs. (12-17 Nm).

Testing

  1. Verify that the oil pressure warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to ON.
  2.
  3. Verify that the oil pressure warning light goes off when the engine is started.
  4.
  5. If the oil pressure warning light does not illuminate or remains illuminated, inspect the oil pressure warning light bulb and related wiring harness.
  6.
  7. If the oil pressure warning light bulb and related wiring harness are normal, inspect the oil pressure.
  8.
  9. If the oil pressure is normal, replace the oil pressure switch.
  10.
  11. Test the oil pressure as follows:
    WARNING
Hot engines and oil can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it and the engine oil have cooled.

    1. Remove the intake manifold bracket on 2.0L (FS) engines.
    2.
    3. Unplug the connector and remove the oil pressure switch.
    4.
    5. Screw an oil pressure gauge into the oil pressure switch installation hole.
    6.
    7. Start the engine to normal operating temperature.
    8.
    9. On the 2.0L (FS) engine, the pressure should be 57-71 psi (393-490 kPa) @ 3000 rpm.
    10.
    11. On the 2.5L (KL) engine, the pressure should be 49-71 psi (334-490 kPa) @ 3000 rpm.
    12.

  12.
  13. If the oil pressure is a specified, replace the switch.
  14.

  1. Verify that the oil pressure gauges goes to H when the ignition switch is turned to ON.
  2.
  3. Verify that the oil pressure gauge goes to L when the engine is turned off.
  4.
  5. If the oil pressure gauge does not move, inspect the oil pressure gauge and related wiring harness.
  6.
  7. If the oil pressure gauge and related wiring harness are normal, inspect the oil pressure.
  8.
  9. If the oil pressure is normal, replace the oil pressure switch.
  10.
  11. Test the oil pressure as follows:

    3. Screw an oil pressure gauge into the oil pressure switch installation hole.
    4.
    5. Start the engine to normal operating temperature.
    6.
    7. The temperature should be 43-56 psi (295-392 kPa) @ 3000 rpm.
    8.

  12.
  13. If the oil pressure is a specified, replace the switch.
  14.

  1. Verify that the oil pressure warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to ON.
