Power Mirrors



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Apply battery positive voltage to the power outer mirror terminals and inspect the operation of the power outer mirror.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminal B and ground to terminal D. The mirror should go up.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminal D and ground to terminal B. The mirror should go up.
  6.  
  7. Apply battery voltage to terminal F and ground to terminal D. The mirror should go left.
  8.  
  9. Apply battery voltage to terminal D and ground to terminal F. The mirror should go right.
  10.  
  11. If not as specified, replace the power outer mirror.

Removal & Installation
Motor
626
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the rear edge of the door glass about 3.5 inches from the fully lowered position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the regulator handle if equipped with a manual window.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner garnish.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screw to remove the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Turn over the recess cover to remove the screw.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screw.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fasteners.
  16.  
  17. Pull the front door trim to disengage clips from the body.
  18.  
  19. Pull the front door trim upward to disengage hooks B from the body.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the trunk lid opener switch connector.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the connector if equipped with a power window.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the courtesy light.
  26.  
  27. Peel back the corner of the screen at the mirror location.
  28.  
  29. Unplug the connector, remove the nuts and the mirror.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Mazda 3

The mirror motor is an internal component of the mirror assembly and if found to be defective, replace the mirror assembly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inner garnish.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the power outer mirror connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws.
  8.  
  9. Push the power outer mirror against the vehicle and detach the tab while lifting the mirror up to remove.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Mazda 6

The mirror motor is an internal component of the mirror assembly and if found to be defective, replace the mirror assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Open the inner handle cap using a small screwdriver, then remove the screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the door lock switch connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the inner garnish.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cover, then remove the screw.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lens cover, then remove screw.
  16.  
  17. Disengage the clips from the front door using a fastener remover.
  18.  
  19. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the tabs from the front door.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the power door mirror switch connector and the power window main switch connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the courtesy light.
  24.  
  25. Remove the front door trim.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the power outer mirror connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the screws and remove the mirror.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Mazda6 And Mazdaspeed6

The mirror motor is an internal component of the mirror assembly and if found to be defective, replace the mirror assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Open the inner handle cap using a small screwdriver, then remove the screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the door lock switch connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the inner garnish.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cover, then remove the screw.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lens cover, then remove screw.
  16.  
  17. Disengage the clips from the front door using a fastener remover.
  18.  
  19. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the tabs from the front door.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the power door mirror switch connector and the power window main switch connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the courtesy light.
  24.  
  25. Remove the front door trim.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the power outer mirror connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the screws and remove the mirror.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Miata
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door speaker.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the power outside mirror connector.
  6.  
  7. Turn the power outside mirror forward.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screws.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power outside mirror.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Millenia
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Lower the front door glass fully.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner garnish.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the inner handle installation screw.
  12.  
  13. Pull the door trim to remove fasteners A from the body.
  14.  
  15. Disengage clips using a fastener remover tool from the body.
  16.  
  17. Lift the door trim up. Remove the ribs, pin and clips together.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the wiring harnesses
  20.  
  21. Remove the door screen.
  22.  
  23. Unplug the connector, remove the fasteners and remove the mirror.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

MX-5 Miata

The mirror motor is an internal component of the mirror assembly and if found to be defective, replace the mirror assembly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door speaker.
  6.  
  7. Remove the door unit by unplugging the electrical connections, unfastening the screws and remove the unit.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the mirror connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the mirror clips and rotate the mirror towards the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolt on one side, then rotate the mirror away from the vehicle and remove the other bolt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the mirror assembly
  16.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Protege
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inner garnish.
  4.  
  5. Remove the regulator handle if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Remove screws and the fastener.
  8.  
  9. Slide the pull handle cover toward the front of the vehicle, then disengage tab from the front door trim.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screws.
  12.  
  13. Disengage clips using a fastener remover from the body.
  14.  
  15. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the pins from the body.
  16.  
  17. Extract the inner handle from the front door trim.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the power window main switch connector (driver-s side).
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the power window sub switch connector (passenger-s side).

  23. Peel back the corner of the screen at the mirror location.
  24.  
  25. Unplug the connector, remove the nuts and the mirror.

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Switch

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Insert a tape-wrapped, flathead screwdriver between the power outside mirror switch and the meter hood.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the connector and remove the power outside mirror switch.

Mazda 3
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the clips using a flathead screwdriver wrapped with protective tape.
  4.  
  5. Remove the switch panel from the front door trim while sliding it in towards the rear of the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connections.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screws, then remove the power outer mirror switch.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Mazda 6
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Open the inner handle cap using a small screwdriver, then remove the screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the door lock switch connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the inner garnish.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cover, then remove the screw.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lens cover, then remove screw.

  19. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the tabs from the front door.

  21. Disconnect the power door mirror switch connector and the power window main switch connector.

  27. Remove the screws and the switch.

Miata
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower panel.
  6.  
  7. Grasp the left and right sides of the power outside mirror switch and push it out to remove it.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the power outside mirror switch connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power outside mirror switch
  12.  

Millenia
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Lower the front door glass fully.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner garnish.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the inner handle installation screw.
  12.  
  13. Pull the door trim to remove fasteners A from the body.
  14.  
  15. Disengage clips using a fastener remover tool from the body.
  16.  
  17. Lift the door trim up. Remove the ribs, pin and clips together.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the wiring harnesses
  20.  
  21. Remove the door screen.
  22.  
  23. Unplug the connector, remove the fasteners and remove the switch.

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

MX-5 Miata
  1. Remove the battery cover.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the pull handle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the armrest.
  8.  
  9. Remove the door trim.
  10.  
  11. Remove the switch panel from the door trim by depressing the tab.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screws and the mirror switch.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Protege
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inner garnish.
  4.  
  5. Remove the regulator handle if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Remove screws and the fastener.
  8.  
  9. Slide the pull handle cover toward the front of the vehicle, then disengage tab from the front door trim.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screws.
  12.  
  13. Disengage clips using a fastener remover from the body.
  14.  
  15. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the pins from the body.
  16.  
  17. Extract the inner handle from the front door trim.
  18.  
  19. Push the clip from the reverse side of the trim to remove the switch panel
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the power window sub switch connector (passenger-s side).
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the electrical connections.
  24.  
  25. Remove the screws, then remove the power outer mirror switch.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
