Diagnosis & Testing
626
  1. Check the sunroof fuses.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminal E and ground to terminal F, the sunroof should tilt down. If not check the sunroof switch.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminal F and ground to terminal E, the sunroof should open left. If not check the sunroof switch.
  6.  
  7. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals C and E, the glass should slide open. if not replace the switch.
  8.  
  9. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals C and D, the glass should slide closed. if not replace the switch.
  10.  
  11. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals A and C, the glass should tilt up. if not replace the switch.
  12.  
  13. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals B and C, the glass should tilt down. if not replace the switch.

Mazda 3
  1. Check the sunroof fuses.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminal A, the sunroof should open fully. If not check the sunroof switch.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminal B, the sunroof should close fully. If not check the sunroof switch.
  6.  
  7. Apply battery voltage to terminal B, the sunroof should tilt up. If not check the sunroof switch.

  9. Apply battery voltage to terminal A, the sunroof should open fully. If not check the sunroof switch.

  11. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals G and F, the glass should slide closed. if not replace the switch.
  12.  
  13. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals G and H, the glass should tilt up. if not replace the switch.

Mazda 6
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminals 2A and 2B, the glass should slide close/tilt up. If not replace the switch.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminals 2B and 2A, the glass should slide open/tilt down. If not replace the switch.

Mazda3
  1. Check the sunroof fuses.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminal A, the sunroof should open fully. If not check the sunroof switch.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminal B, the sunroof should close fully. If not check the sunroof switch.
  6.  
  7. Apply battery voltage to terminal B, the sunroof should tilt up. If not check the sunroof switch.

  9. Apply battery voltage to terminal A, the sunroof should open fully. If not check the sunroof switch.

  11. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals G and F, the glass should slide closed. if not replace the switch.

  13. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals G and H, the glass should tilt up. if not replace the switch.

Mazda6 And Mazdaspeed6
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminals 2A and 2B, the glass should slide close/tilt up. If not replace the switch.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminals 2B and 2A, the glass should slide open/tilt down. If not replace the switch.

Millenia
  1. Check the sunroof fuses.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminal J and ground to terminal I, the sunroof should open/tilt down. If not check the sunroof switch.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminal F and ground to terminal E, the sunroof should close/tilt open. If not check the sunroof switch.
  6.  
  7. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals as shown in the illustration. If the any of the tests fail, replace the switch.

Protege
  1. Check the sunroof fuses.
  2.  
  3. Apply battery voltage to terminal 2A and ground to terminal 2B, the sunroof should close/tilt up. If not check the sunroof switch.
  4.  
  5. Apply battery voltage to terminal F and ground to terminal E, the sunroof should open/tilt down. If not check the sunroof switch.
  6.  
  7. Check the sunroof switch for continuity between terminals as shown in the illustration. If the any of the tests fail, replace the switch.

Removal & Installation
Motor

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Fully close the glass panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the interior light.
  8.  
  9. Remove the overhead console.
  10.  
  11. Remove the seaming welt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the A-pillar trim.
  14.  
  15. Remove the B-pillar upper trim.
  16.  
  17. Remove the C-pillar trim.
  18.  
  19. Remove the rear console.
  20.  
  21. Remove the sun visors and the assist handles.
  22.  
  23. Remove the fasteners.
  24.  
  25. Move the shift lever to 4th gear if equipped with a manual transaxle. Move the shift lever to 1 position if equipped with an automatic transaxle.
  26.  
  27. Slide the seat back to the maximum rearward position.
  28.  
  29. Recline both seat backs to the maximum reclined position.
  30.  
  31. Slide the headliner towards the rear of the vehicle to disengage the headliner hook A from the roof.
  32.  
  33. Remove the headliner from the vehicle through the passenger-s side front door at a 45 degree angle, with the right edge at the lower right corner and the left edge at the upper left corner of the door opening.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the motor connector.
  36.  
  37. Remove the screws, and remove the sunroof motor.

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Mazda 3
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the console on 4 door models.
  4.  
  5. Remove the A-pillar trim.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper anchor of the front seat belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front and rear scuff plates.
  10.  
  11. Remove the B-pillar lower and lower trim.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear seat.
  14.  
  15. Remove the tire house trim.
  16.  
  17. Remove the trunk side upper trim on 5 door models.
  18.  
  19. Remove the C-pillar trim.
  20.  
  21. Remove the map light.
  22.  
  23. Remove the sun visor.
  24.  
  25. Remove the assist handle.
  26.  
  27. Remove the headliner.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the sunroof motor connector.
  30.  
  31. Remove the screws, then remove the sunroof motor.
  32.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Mazda 6
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Partially peel back the seaming welt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the microphone, if equipped with a car-navigation system.
  8.  
  9. Remove the microphone sunroof seaming welt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the microphone A-pillar trims.
  12.  
  13. Remove the microphone upper anchor of the front seat belt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front and rear scuff plates .
  16.  
  17. Remove the B-pillar lower and upper trims.
  18.  
  19. Remove the C-pillar trims.
  20.  
  21. Remove the D-pillar trims, on sport wagon models.
  22.  
  23. Remove the front and rear map lights.
  24.  
  25. Remove the cargo compartment light .
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the auto-dimming mirror connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the sun visors.
  30.  
  31. Remove the assist handle.
  32.  
  33. Remove the headliner.
  34.  
  35. Unplug the motor connector.
  36.  
  37. Remove the screws, and then remove the sunroof motor.
  38.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Mazda3
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the console on 4 door models.
  4.  
  5. Remove the A-pillar trim.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper anchor of the front seat belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front and rear scuff plates.
  10.  
  11. Remove the B-pillar lower and lower trim.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear seat.
  14.  
  15. Remove the tire house trim.

  21. Remove the map light.

  12.

  15. Remove the front and rear scuff plates .
  16.  
  17. Remove the B-pillar lower and upper trims.
  18.  
  19. Remove the C-pillar trims.
  20.  
  21. Remove the D-pillar trims, on sport wagon models.
  22.  
  23. Remove thefront and rear map lights.
  24.  
  25. Remove the cargo compartment light .
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the auto-dimming mirror connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the sun visors.
  30.  
  31. Remove the assist handle.
  32.  
  33. Remove the headliner.
  34.  
  35. Unplug the motor connector.
  36.  
  37. Remove the screws, and then remove the sunroof motor.
  38.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Millenia
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the A-pillar trim, B-pillar upper trim and C-pillar trim
  4.  
  5. remove the center sun visor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the map light and sunroof switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the sun visor and adapter.
  10.  
  11. remove the assist handle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the seaming welt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the headliner mounting fasteners.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the clips at the rear of the headliner.
  18.  
  19. Remove the hook to remove the headliner.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the motor connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the screws, and remove the sunroof motor.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Protege

Refer to the illustrations for component locations.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Turn the seaming welt and weatherstrip over.
  4.  
  5. Remove the A-pillar trims.
  6.  
  7. Remove the B-pillar upper trims.
  8.  
  9. Remove the C-pillar trims.
  10.  
  11. Remove the interior and map light if not equipped with a sliding sunroof.
  12.  
  13. Remove the map light and interior light if equipped with a sliding sunroof..
  14.  
  15. Remove the screws then remove the sun visor and assist handle.
  16.  
  17. Fold tabs A up if equipped with a sliding sunroof.
  18.  
  19. Remove the fasteners.
  20.  
  21. Remove the headliner diagonally from the passenger-side front door frame.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the sunroof motor connector.
  24.  
  25. Remove the screws, then remove the sunroof motor.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Switch

The sunroof switch and the map light are a single unit.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screws and the map light from the headliner. Unplug the connector and remove the assembly.
  4.
