Brake Pads

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Cap on typeA
     
    Caliper
     
    Spring on typeA
     
    Brake pads
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Caliper on the brake disc
     
    Caliper mounting bolts and tighten the bolts onAB
     
    Brake pads
     
    Spring on typeA
     

  2.  
  3. Install the wheels.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Caliper lower mounting bolt and pivot the caliper up and support it
     
    Brake pads, shims and pin
     

  6.  
  7. Using Mazda tool 49-0221-600C and the old inner brake pad, push the caliper piston into the caliper bore.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Brake pads and shims to the caliper support
     
    Caliper over the brake pads
     
    Caliper mounting bolt and torque to 22-28 ft. lbs. (30-41 Nm)
     
    Wheels
     

  2.  
  3. Test the brakes for proper operation.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Lower lockbolt, and pivot the brake caliper upwards
     
    Spring, if equipped with 15 inch wheels
     
    Brake pads and shim
     

  6.  
  7. Using Mazda piston compressor tool 49-0221-600C and the old inner brake pad, push the caliper piston into the caliper bore.
  8.  

To install:



Brake pads and shims onto the caliper
 
Caliper
 
Spring, if equipped with 15 inch wheels
 
Lockbolt and tighten to 58-65 ft. lbs. (78-88 Nm)
 
Wheels
 

  1. Test the brakes for proper operation.
  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Bottom caliper lock pin and swing the caliper upwards
     
    V-springs the pads and shims
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Brake pads, shims and V-springs
     

  2.  
  3. Press the caliper pistons back into their cylinders.

    Calipers. Torque the lock pin to 47-62 ft. lbs. (63-84 Nm).
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Pad retaining clip
     
    Cap from the bottom caliper bolt
     
    Lower caliper mounting bolt and swing the caliper up
     
    Brake pads
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Press the caliper piston back into the cylinder using tool 49 0221 600C.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Outer pad to the mounting support and inner pad to the caliper
     
    Caliper. Torque the caliper lower mounting bolt to 19-22 ft. lbs. (25-30 Nm). Install the bolt cap.
     
    Retaining clip
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads.
  6.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Brake pipe bolts
     
    Top caliper bolt cap and bolt and swing the caliper downwards
     
    M-springs the pads and shims
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

  3. Press the caliper pistons back into their cylinders using tool 49 0221 600C

    Brake pads, shims and M-springs
     
    Caliper. Torque the bolt to 36-39 ft. lbs. (49-52 Nm) and install the cap.
     
    Wheels

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir. The reservoir should be no more than 1 / 2 full.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the pad pins and retaining springs from the brake pads.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake pads.
  10.  
  11. Push the caliper piston into the caliper bore.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the brake pads and shims to the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Insert the pad pins and retaining springs.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Test the brakes for proper operation.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper lower mounting bolt and pivot the caliper up and support it.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake pads, shims and pin.
  10.  
  11. Using Mazda tool 49-0221-600C and the old inner brake pad, push the caliper piston into the caliper bore.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the brake pads and shims to the caliper support. Install the caliper over the brake pads.
  2.  
  3. Install the caliper mounting bolt and torque to 22-29 ft. lbs. (30-40 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Test the brakes for proper operation.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower lockbolt, and pivot the brake caliper upwards.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake pads and shim.
  10.  
  11. Using Mazda tool 49-0221-600C and the old inner brake pad, push the caliper piston into the caliper bore.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the brake pads and shims onto the caliper.
  2.  
  3. Pivot the caliper into position. Install the lockbolt and tighten to 58-65 ft. lbs. (78-88 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Test the brakes for proper operation.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bottom caliper lock pin and swing the caliper upwards.
  6.  
  7. Remove the V-springs and remove the pads and shims.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the brake pads and shims. Install the V-springs
  2.  
  3. Press the caliper pistons back into their cylinders and install the calipers. Torque the lock pin to 47-62 ft. lbs. (63-84 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Pad retaining clip
     
    Cap from the bottom caliper bolt
     
    Lower caliper mounting bolt and swing the caliper up
     
    Brake pads
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Press the caliper piston back into the cylinder using tool 49 0221 600C.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Outer pad to the mounting support and inner pad to the caliper
     
    Caliper. Torque the caliper lower mounting bolt to 19-22 ft. lbs. (25-30 Nm). Install the bolt cap.
     
    Retaining clip
     
    Wheels
     

  4.  
  5. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the pads.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Brake pipe bolts
     
    Top caliper bolt cap and bolt and swing the caliper downwards
     
    M-springs the pads and shims
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

  3. Press the caliper pistons back into their cylinders using tool 49 0221 600C

    Brake pads, shims and M-springs
     
    Caliper. Torque the bolt to 36-39 ft. lbs. (49-52 Nm) and install the cap.

  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Cap on type A brakes or bolt on type brakes
     
    Caliper
     
    Spring on type A brakes
     
    Brake pads
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Caliper on the brake disc
     
    Caliper mounting bolts and tighten the bolts on A type brakes to 37-39 ft. lbs. (50-53 Nm) or 16-23 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm) on type B brakes
     
    Brake pads
     
    Spring on type A brakes
     

  2.  
  3. Install the wheels.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Caliper lower mounting bolt and pivot the caliper up and support it
     
    Brake pads, shims and pin
     

  6.  
  7. Using Mazda tool 49-0221-600C and the old inner brake pad, push the caliper piston into the caliper bore.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Brake pads and shims to the caliper support
     
    Caliper over the brake pads
     
    Caliper mounting bolt and torque to 22-28 ft. lbs. (30-41 Nm)
     
    Wheels

  3. Test the brakes for proper operation.

To install:
