Window Motor & Regulator
Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the rear edge of the door glass about 3.5 inches from the fully lowered position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the regulator handle if equipped with a manual window.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner garnish.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screw to remove the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Turn over the recess cover to remove the screw.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screw.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fasteners.
  16.  
  17. Pull the front door trim to disengage clips from the body.
  18.  
  19. Pull the front door trim upward to disengage hooks B from the body.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the trunk lid opener switch connector.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the connector if equipped with a power window.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the courtesy light.
  26.  
  27. Remove the bracket and inner door handle.
  28.  
  29. Remove the front door screen and lock

  31. Remove the lock link, outer handle and lock cylinder if needed.

  33. Remove the screws, door glass and glass run channel.
  34.  
  35. Remove the connector, regulator retainers and regulator.
  36.

Mazda 3
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Adjust the door glass position as shown in the illustration.

  5. Remove the inner garnish as follows:
    1. Pull the inner garnish outward and detach the clip.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    4.  
    5. Detach the tabs and remove the inner garnish.
    6.

  7. Remove the front door trim as follows:
    1. Using a small flathead screwdriver, open the cap and remove the screw, then remove the inner handle cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the regulator handle. Using a small flathead screwdriver, open the cap and remove the screw.
    4.  
    5. Detach clips from the front door using a fastener remover.
    6.  
    7. Pull the front door trim upward and detach tabs from the front door.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the power window switch connector and on the left side the power outer mirror switch connector.
    10.  
    11. Remove the front door trim.
    12.

  9. Remove the front door speaker.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front door glass as follows:
    1. Remove the hole cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the screws.
    4.  
    5. Lift the front door glass up and remove it while tilting it in the direction illustrated.

  13. Remove the power window motor , retainers, unplug the connector and remove the motor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the regulator nuts.
  16.  
  17. Insert your hand through the front speaker installation hole, rotate the drum housing in the direction shown in the illustration and disengage the tabs from the rear door module.

  19. Remove the front power window regulator through the speaker installation hole.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
    CAUTION
    Make sure the cable does not unspool from the drum housing when installing.

Mazda 6
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Open the front door glass so that the distance from the top of the front door glass to the upper part of the front beltline molding is 8.3 inch (210mm).
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Open the inner handle cap using a small screwdriver, then remove the screw.
  8.  
  9. Remove the inner handle cover.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the door lock switch connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the inner garnish.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cover, then remove the screw.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lens cover, then remove screw.
  18.  
  19. Disengage the clips from the front door using a fastener remover.
  20.  
  21. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the tabs from the front door.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the power door mirror switch connector and the power window main switch connector.
  24.  
  25. Remove the courtesy light.
  26.  
  27. Remove the front door trim.
  28.  
  29. Remove the switch panel from the front door trim
  30.  
  31. Remove the hole cover.
  32.  
  33. Remove the screws.
  34.  
  35. Lift out the front door glass.
  36.  
  37. Remove the front door speaker.
  38.  
  39. Disconnect the power window motor connector, front door lock actuator connector, and the power outside mirror connector.
  40.  
  41. Remove the front door harness from the front door unit.
  42.  
  43. Remove screws
  44.  
  45. Remove the front door actuator tab from the front door unit.
  46.  
  47. Pull the front door unit slightly outward, and while keeping the power window regulator from
  48.  
  49. catching on the front door, remove the front door unit from the front door.
  50.  
  51. Pull out the inner handle cable and door lock knob cable from the hole.
  52.  
  53. Remove the power window motor and power window regulator from the front door unit carrier.
  54.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Miata
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise Lower or raise the front door glass so that the distance from the top of the front door glass at the molding is 8.86 inches.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw and remove the inner handle cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fasteners.
  8.  
  9. Pull the door trim, then disengage clips from the body.
  10.  
  11. Lift the door trim, then disengage tabs from the body

  13. Remove the inner handle and pads.
  14.  
  15. Remove the glass stopper and door glass.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front then rear glass guides.
  18.  
  19. Remove the door weatherstrip.
  20.  
  21. Unplug the connector, remove the fasteners and remove the regulator.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Millenia
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Lower the front door glass fully.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner garnish.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the inner handle installation screw.
  12.  
  13. Pull the door trim to remove fasteners A from the body.
  14.  
  15. Disengage clips using a fastener remover tool from the body.
  16.  
  17. Lift the door trim up. Remove the ribs, pin and clips together.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the wiring harnesses
  20.  
  21. Remove the door screen, door glass and run channel.
  22.  
  23. Unplug the connector, remove the fasteners and remove the regulator.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Protege
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Lower or raise the front door glass so that the distance from the top of the front door glass at the molding is 5.12 inches.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner garnish.
  6.  
  7. Remove the regulator handle if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove screws and the fastener.
  10.  
  11. Slide the pull handle cover toward the front of the vehicle, then disengage tab from the front door trim.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screws.
  14.  
  15. Disengage clips using a fastener remover tool from the body.
  16.  
  17. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the pins from the body.
  18.  
  19. Extract the inner handle from the front door trim.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the power window main switch connector (driver-s side).
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the power window sub switch connector (passenger-s side).
  24.  
  25. Remove the inner handle.
  26.  
  27. Remove the door screen, door glass and run channel.
  28.  
  29. Unplug the connector, remove the fasteners and remove the regulator.

Window Switch

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the rear edge of the door glass about 3.5 inches from the fully lowered position.

  5. Remove the regulator handle if equipped with a manual window.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner garnish.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screw to remove the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Turn over the recess cover to remove the screw.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screw.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fasteners.
  16.  
  17. Pull the front door trim to disengage clips from the body.
  18.  
  19. Pull the front door trim upward to disengage hooks B from the body.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the trunk lid opener switch connector.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the connector if equipped with a power window.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the courtesy light.
  26.  
  27. Remove the screw and the switch.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Mazda 3
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the clips using a flathead screwdriver wrapped with protective tape.
  4.  
  5. Remove the switch panel from the front door trim while sliding it in towards the rear of the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connections.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screws, then remove the power outer mirror switch.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Mazda 6
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Open the inner handle cap using a small screwdriver, then remove the screw.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the door lock switch connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the inner garnish.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cover, then remove the screw.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lens cover, then remove screw.
  16.  
  17. Disengage the clips from the front door using a fastener remover.
  18.  
  19. Pull the front door trim upward, then disengage the tabs from the front door.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the power door mirror switch connector and the power window main switch connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the courtesy light.
  24.  
  25. Remove the front door trim.
  26.  
  27. Remove the screws and the switch.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Miata
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the power window switch using a flathead screwdriver wrapped with protective tape.

Millenia
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Lower the front door glass fully.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner garnish.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner handle cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the inner handle installation screw.
  12.  
  13. Pull the door trim to remove fasteners A from the body.
  14.  
  15. Disengage clips using a fastener remover tool from the body.
  16.  
  17. Lift the door trim up. Remove the ribs, pin and clips together.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the wiring harnesses
  20.  
  21. Remove the door screen.
  22.  
  23. Unplug the connector, remove the fasteners and remove the switch.

  25. Push out the clip from the reverse side of the trim, and remove the switch panel.

  27. Remove the screw, and remove the power window main switch.
