3.0L (Aj) Engines

  1. Remove the ignition coil.
  2.
  3. Measure the resistance between the two terminals of the connector. The resistance should be 0.45-1.15 ohms at room temperature.
  4.
  5. Measure the resistance between terminal A to ignition coil boot socket using a tester. The resistance should be 5-6 kilohms at room temperature.
  6.
  7. Measure the insulation resistance between terminal A to ignition coil case using a tester. The resistance should be 10 megaohms or more at room temperature.

Except 3.0L (Aj) Engines

  1. Remove the ignition coil.
  2.
  3. Remove the spark plug.
  4.
  5. Attach the plug to the ignition coil and attach the ignition coil connector.
  6.
  7. Ground the spark plug, crank the engine for about 5 seconds at a time and see if a spark occurs. If spark occurs the coil is working normally.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the ignition coil connector.
  10.
  11. Measure the resistance between each terminal on the ignition coil connector using an analog circuit tester.
  12.
  13. With the positive lead of the Ohmmeter connected to terminal C and the negative lead connected to terminal A, the resistance should be infinite. If not replace the coil
  14.
  15. With the positive lead of the Ohmmeter connected to terminal A and the negative lead connected to terminal C, the resistance should be infinite. If not replace the coil
  16.
  17. With the positive lead of the Ohmmeter connected to terminal C and the negative lead connected to terminal B, the resistance should be infinite. If not replace the coil
  18.
  19. With the positive lead of the Ohmmeter connected to terminal A and the negative lead connected to terminal B, the resistance should be around seven Kilo ohms. If not replace the coil
  20.
  21. With the positive lead of the Ohmmeter connected to terminal B and the negative lead connected to terminal A, the resistance should be around seven Kilo ohms. If not replace the coil
